Anything short of a second round playoff game is going to be a disapointment

I would normally say “well prepare to be disappointed,” but MF and Co. can take this to the next level.

I truly believe

Narrator: He began to rethink the assertion after ND burned a timeout before the first play from scrimmage at Kyle Field because people were making noise……

Georgia is the new Bama. I don't see us beating them until the talent in the south starts to balance out a bit.

There is also Ohio State, who we haven't beaten since 1935. And they are absolutely going all in now in all areas.

Speaking of 1935. 1935 was a great year for enterprise, bringing in the first can of beer, the first pair of briefs and the first parking metre, as well the discovery of the neutron and radar technology.

So, did you allow yourself to be happy in the minutes between the announcement and this post ? Or are you just this bitter and dedicated to negativity 24-7? Damn, dude. Take a minute.

still lacking size up the middle and a true game changing, otherwise i agree
Yea, kind of my point. Until Freeman roles out a roster that resembles the 92 Cowboys, the Freemanites will make excuses regardless.

There is no reason this team shouldn't be making a 12 team playoff and extremely competitive in that envrionment.

It's such a low bar now. The university and boosters are backing him in full force. It's time we stop making his job easier by lowering expectations.

I’m not going to say they need to win a Natty but they definitely need to make the playoffs. If this roster doesn’t make the playoffs then conversations need to be had. This is coming from someone that is extremely pro Marcus Freeman

You're over $4M for some DCs in the NFL, i would assume by next year someone is making $5M a year as DC in the NFL.
Money isn’t always the primary factor, especially when he’s making enough to set him up for life and he’s already experienced the NFL. Plus the odds are better of him getting fired sooner in the NFL.

Nobody ever lowered any expectations. Big difference between lowering expectations and being realistic with a brand new first time head coach and a very talented roster that had serious holes in it.

Agree 100% our defense should be top 5 they alone should allow us to be in every game. As long as the OL gets sorted out by end of year and gel we should make a run

I can't tell if the worst day to come to this site is the day that, supposedly, something good happens. "Golden, architect of one of the top defenses in the country signs a 4 year extension. Deland McCullough becomes Asst head coach." Then for the next bunch of pages it begins, "We can't keep letting Marcus have excuses!! He has to prove he can win now, or there have to be some serious conversations!!" Can some of you just enjoy some positive news? He can't play a game until Sept. Seems like an awful long time to continue to not enjoy something we claim to be such big fans of.

We beat OSU last year in 11 aside. They just beat us at 10 on 11s for 5 seconds.

This is where I’m at, as a fellow Freeman fan. We should make the playoffs. Probably second round. Once you’re there, you shoot your shot and see what happens. But with our schedule, staff and skill level, 12-team playoff is kind of the floor.

The bar is higher, if anything IMO

Under the last regime, getting your brains beat in by any team that takes football seriously was pretty much a given.

I feel more confident in those games now, and many other people do too.

As good as our defense was last year, with who is coming back & the incoming freshman I think our defense can be better than last season.

Can they be as good as or better than 2012's defense?

Given our schedule and what the team has added both on offense & defense from the portal and coaching addition(s) this team can 100% make the playoffs this year.

Great move by ND to given Golden a 4 yr. extension.

It would be awesome to host a playoff game in December at Notre Dame Stadium; I am ready to freeze my ass off!

Excited for the defense but definitely in wait and see mode when it comes to Kiser replacing JD. Bertrand got rave reviews at the senior bowl.

Yeah I wasn't a huge Bertrand fan going into last year but he definitely showed out

He was especially disruptive blitzing

Think he'll be missed this year for sure

The expectation has to be that ND hosts, and wins, a playoff game.

This is the type of "make a run" roster that ND should have every 3 or so years - good returning starters, young pups starting to add considerable depth, etc. Is it a team that can take down UGA? I'm not sure of that quite yet, but I would line up our squad against anyone else in the nation right now (OSU, Texas, Michigan, etc.).

But there's a huge difference between having expectations, and meeting expectations. We're going to find out all about MF this year, and where this ship is headed.

“We weren’t ready for their team and fan base to be so hyped up!”

In all seriousness, freeman seems to be doing everything great but consistent prep and game day coaching the big need for improvement

I guess I'm a "Freemanite" in the sense that the head coach of Notre Dame Football is my guy, so I'm going to carry some water for him from time to time and being a realist I understand that shit happens in life? I thought Bob Davie was a complete dunce but could still admit the guy caught a few bad breaks, and he was a tad more seasoned that Marcus Freeman was/is when he took over. I had face to face and Internet debates about the whole "Brian Kelly killed a kid", and was never entirely keen on Brian Kelly as a person from the moment he got hired. In hindsight, some shit went down and MF made some mistakes, but life went on and finished out positively fourth street. We've seen the alternative.

It's about time this university fed the hand that feeds them. I'm happiest the most that they're doing it in a reasonable way that isn't going to come back and bite them in the ass (see Texas A&M) or stockpiling recruits only to finish .500 (see Miami). Not too long ago there were plenty of people getting frustrated that the Dante Moores and Peyton Bowens were taking greener bags. Only thing is, the bags were greenier but maybe not the pastures. They're doing this and they're doing it right, and they probably see what so many of us believe: Marcus Freeman is the right guy at the right time for this program.

Or we're all just idiots who have watched too much Ted Lasso.
