How is Mickens being with Freeman relevant to Golden? Coaches go on their own regularly. Sure, glad Mickens is staying and hopefully he’s the next DC. Doesn’t change the fact it would suck if Golden left. He had been on the road last week. He’s not this week. Again it could be nothing. But given the NFL interest it may not be
There's been message board talk of Golden going to the NFL and Mickens is a coach on the rise with what he has done the past few years.

With Mickens being with Freeman I am sure there are conversations between the 2 about a DC opportunity for Mickens if Golden left.

I would be shocked if Golden left before the 2024 season- we all know what he is coming back with and who is coming in.

The recruiting reports are great to read to see what coaches are seeing who.

Someone mentioned on here Golden has a new contract almost the same as Dembrock

When Golden was at Miami, he didn't offer Lamar Jackson. Do we want him on the road?

Saw some disgruntled Canes fan tweet something about this. Thought it was hilarious.

Golden filed a lawsuit against current BC AD when he was at Miami, who was their AD at the time. Wrongful termination I believe was the reason.

Politics aside, I highly doubt Good Ole Al is going to go work for that guy again.

I don't think Golden would be interested. Certainly if Washington gets offered, he'd be crazy to say no.

But honestly, if I'm BC, there's several names that I'd pursue over Washington or Golden. They seriously need to fix their offense. They've been brutally inept on offense for years.

Interesting that Max Bullough is on the road recruiting. I guess Golden got a pass to stay home.

Golden is due to have surgery soon not sure for what exactly but I’ll guess cybernetic implants to give him +6 agility

To Balki's point, of the names on that list, Liam Coen (who's apparently interviewing for Tampa Bay OC) might make the most sense for BC. Fairly young, offensive-minded, from New England. Though I'd bet they at least kick the tires on Washington, too.

Washington is also an alum of BC.

COMPLETELY forgot Blake James was their AD. Yeah, Golden isn't going to Chestnut Hill.

This is actually true, but it wasn't that he didn't offer; it's that he wanted him to play WR.

TBH, Canes fans have some pretty legitimate beef when it comes to Golden's recruiting. He slow-played Amari Cooper, who was dying to be a Cane. At that time, the talent in Miami-Dade went through an absolutely bonkers few years (Davonte Freeman, Teddy Bridgewater, Sony Michel, Dalvin Cook to name just a few), and almost all of those guys went elsewhere.

SIAP but Loy commented today that he thinks the extension has quietly been signed. Thinks not knows.
This would be awesome.

Golden just doesn't seem like the type of coach you'd want to lead a program that will pay more than ND would pay it's DC. He's probably self reflected and realized todays age of being HC in college isn't for him.

My biggest fear of him leaving has been and will be the NFL. He can control his defensive product much more in college than the NFL though, so that's my hope is he wants to win a NC and lead a defensive dynasty at ND.

He’s (probably) making more as the DC at ND than he would be in the NFL and he’s got a head coach that takes a lot of the recruiting pressure off. He’s got a pretty sweet gig.

Feels like the more success he has at ND, the more NFL people could come calling for him, but the new brass seems to be helping Marcus create a satisfying work environment for Uncle Mike and Uncle Al.

It's all good issues to be dealing with in the end, isn't it?

You're over $4M for some DCs in the NFL, i would assume by next year someone is making $5M a year as DC in the NFL.

That’s high end, not the average. Golden is gonna make more at ND than the average NFL coordinator

Does Golden have any experience at actually coaching safties? Could make him the safety coach, let Mike Mickens really oversee the secondary as pass game coordinator or something and make Max the LB coach before he goes to BC

No. The majority of his titles coaching a position are at LB. He spent four years in the League between the Lions and Bengals coaching linebackers. That's where Freeman's career has been primarily focused as well.
