I don't know the exact stats, but most of our ACC opponents had bye weeks before playing us this year. Coincidence? I think not.

Clemson, Wake Forest and Boston College had a bye before us
Virginia, Georgia Tech and Pitt did not

The "Notre Dame Effect"

The "Notre Dame Effect"

They sure aren't bitching about the money that flows down to them from athletic departments that benefit from being associated with ND football. Especially when ND plays at their stadium and they make fans buy three, four, and five game ticket packages in order to have access to inflated ticket prices for the ND games.

When Notre Dame came to town in 2015....

----Virginia's season attendance jumped 29% which was the biggest increase among P5 schools. 58,200 people attended the game and by far their largest attendance of the season. Last year's average attendance was 39,320. The worry is that they will not be sble to sustain that next year.

----Pittsburgh set an attendance record for Heinz field-68,400. Their second largest crowd was for their opener with Youngstown State - 49,949. Pitt's average season attendance jumped 17%.

----Clemson had its largest crowd of the season - 82,415 in what some called the biggest game in Clemson history. Rooms averaged $599 a night with a two night minimum. Some rooms went for $1000-1500 a night.

----In non-ACC away games, Temple set an attendance record, garnering a 18.1 TV rating in Philadelphia - the highest rated regular season viewership in Philadelphia history.

----The Notre Dame-Stanford game set records "The FOX broadcast network saw its highest-rated and most-watched regular season game ever" with more than 7.3 million viewers. Stanford had its largest home attendance of the season (tied with the Cal game).

----Boston College - To get a BC ticket for the Shamrock Series game at Fenway (37,400 capacity), you had to have donated $5,000 or $100,000 in your lifetime. You could donate $25,000 to BC for four tickets to the game. Otherwise, season ticket holders could enter a lottery. The total spending impact was $22.2 million - 14 times the average regular season Red Sox game of $1.6 million.

Overall, FBS attendance in 2014 dropped to its lowest in 14 years, down 4% from the previous year. In 2015, FBS attendance was down 1% from 2014.

In the two ACC away games last year,
----Florida State's average attendance in 2014 was up by 6,790 fans. In 2015, FSU has seen one of the steepest declines in FBS - down 11%.

----Syracuse's attendance jumped 6% in 2014 and fell 29% in 2015.

Miami Hurricanes Football: Mark Richt Sends Players Packing

Miami used to have twenty-two or so verbals preseason has seen twelve decommitments (one recommitted) and no commitments during the regular season. Of those, three RB prospects and three WR prospects decommitted. Richt has gotten two more verbals, but their current class sits at fourteen verbals.

Florida State signee Shavar Manuel working on eligibility

Shavar Manuel told 247Sports he’s working hard to gain his eligibility and get admitted with his 2016 classmates and that his “foot is in the door.”

247Sports is reporting Manuel “had ground to make up academically” to qualify this fall. Manuel said he is taking an online course. “I think everything is going to work out,” he said. “I just have to stay on the grind.”

Those on-line courses are a "grind". I just don't see a Stanford offer. Nine SEC offers though.

FSU's Mario Pender dismissed from team after being charged with domestic battery by strangulation

Pender, 23, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department and placed in Leon County Jail, according to county records. Bond was set at $500 for the charge of resisting an officer without violence, but no bond total was listed by the Leon County Sherriff’s Department for Pender’s domestic violence charge.

Pender faced allegations of battery and grand theft when he was a prep standout at Cape Coral Island Coast High, but the state declined to pursue charges against Pender after the woman who made the allegations did not cooperate in the case according to NBC2 in Fort Myers.

Pender found himself in the middle of another incident in December 2013 along with his half brother, Tim Pruitt, former FSU offensive lineman Ira Denson and Denson's friend Tarron Addison. Denson stole Pender's debit card, then Pender stole Denson's shoes as a form of collateral, and a meeting to return the items turned violent as Addison allegedly shot Pruitt in his head, according to court documents obtained by the Sentinel.

The rising senior missed all but three games of the 2015 season after suffering a punctured lung in practice. The injury resulted in an infection that caused him to lose roughly 15 pounds. Pender was cleared to return to practice before the end of the season, according to coach Jimbo Fisher, but FSU was cautious to not rush him back. Pender did not practice this spring. Fisher said in April that Pender got “behind a little bit with schoolwork” and expected him to return to the team fulltime in the summer, according to 247 Sports.

After being denied admission by North Carolina, S James Pierre high on Syracuse football

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse may become a benefactor of North Carolina's NCAA violations.

With sanctions yet to be levied in the academic fraud investigation, UNC is tightening up its enrollment standards and that meant denying admission to safety signee James Pierre, according to Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School head coach Jevon Glenn
.
Pierre has the grade-point average, standardized test scores and course credits to pass the NCAA Clearinghouse.

"Their thing is if a kid misses more than 15 days of school, he isn't projected to do well in college," Glenn said.

i liked this part of the story....

Since multiple players share the same position, the NCAA approved a request to stagger certain suspensions. Carney will sit games against East Carolina, UCF, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech, while Fox will miss the Miami, Syracuse, Virginia and Georgia Tech games.

REQUESTED TO STAGGER THE SUSPENSIONS...AND APPROVED?!?

OK.
LOLLL

Yup. It was self reported, and only a secondary violation, so I won't bitch too much... Just more fodder for those that believe that NC will always get off easy from the NCAA though.

Florida State's awful season (5-7) this year has been attributed in large part to their porous and ineffective Offensive Line. One win was over a FCS team. A thirty-six year bowl streak has come to an end in Willie Taggart's first season. The combined point differential in losses to Clemson, Florida and Notre Dame was one hundred points.

FSU was last in the conference in:
- Rushing Offense (2.69 yds/carry)
- First downs (16.5 per game)
- Third down conversions
- Tackles for loss allowed

and second to last (to L'ville) in
- total offense
- sacks allowed
- red zone conversions

FSU was last in the conference in Turnover Margin.

Three Offensive linemen are out of eligibility. Six more are eligible for the Draft. Four of those six are listed as second string to the current bad offensive linemen. How many of those remain at FSU is not clear yet.

Help does not seem to be on its way. Their 2018 class include three OL commits. The two OTs were ranked as 29th and 57th at their position. The OG was ranked as 14th. The 2019 class has one offensive lineman at this time, an OG ranked sixth. Three other OL prospects have FSU in their final group, usually comprised of Alabama, Florida or Miami, etc. Only one, a highly rated (#6) OG, has crystal balls to FSU.

Don't care for Clemson, but I found this amusing:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/27210310/swinney-showcases-lineman-qb-stunt-double

Swinney knew that the media would want to talk to QB Lawrence for the ACC Kickoff media event, but Swinney has a policy of not allowing any players attend unless they're upperclassmen set to graduate. Instead of having Lawrence show up, he had Offensive Guard John Simpson wear a blond wig and pretend to be Lawrence. Of course this pissed off the media and fans, but I thought it was funny:

Agree that's funny; media days are so monotonous IMO, have a damn sense of humor.

Happy Swinney is sticking to his policy and not giving into the media just because his sophomore is a phenom.
