I heard he got his girlfriend pregnant. No idea if it's true just something I heard.

Seriously??? That's just idiotic. I'm pissed as hell at the kid but that's just irresponsible.

Personally I am kind of glad this whole Aaron Lynch saga is over. I was one of his biggest fans and was really on cloud nine when we got him, then his freshman year was everything we had hoped for and the future looked really bright. The thing that I will not miss is all of the drama we have seen with this kid. One minute he loves Notre Dame one minute he doesnt kind of thing. Bottom line is I dont think his heart was ever really here in the first place. Its just sad that he wasnt happy here. I think one day he might regret leaving. Our program is much greater than one confused, indecisive kid and we will survive. I want kids that want to be at Notre Dame.

I still truly don't know what to think about this whole situation. I haven't given any type of opinion on this because there's so much we don't know-- on both sides. I guess I'm finally commenting because:

1) Several posters on this thread and a couple others have either claimed they were going to let us know more of the "inside scoop" and/or hint that they have an "inside scoop." To which I say in my best Judge Smails voice, "Well...we're waiting." And as we know, the whole "I know something but I can't tell it" BS never floats around here anyway.

2) Like I said, I don't really know what to think about Lynch leaving. He's a tremendously talented kid for sure...and it sucks d!cks anytime you lose a tremendously talented player. Anybody who says otherwise is probably drunk or out of touch with reality. But sometimes there is definitely truth in the whole "addition by subtraction" thing. So there's that. But I'll also say that in college football, I think it's absolutely true (unlike the NFL) that restrictions on practice time and the intelligence (or lack thereof) of players means talent and playmakers matter a whole helluva lot more than many want to admit. It isn't as much about scheme, knowing the playbook, and mental aptitude in college as it is about finding the players and athletes to put on the field that can make plays regardless of how intelligent they are. I point to the SEC, Oregon, Texas, Miami, Florida St., Oklahoma, and whomever else you'd like to include from recent years [that places a premium on footbaw ability over mental ability (or capability) virtually 100 times out of 100, if given the choice in their program] that has done well in winning college football games. The programs listed above are full of Aaron Lynch-type of guys. Now I'm not saying that I think ND should become what those others are nor that I don't think ND can win big in today's college football landscape. I think many on here have oversimplified the whole Lynch leaving discussion or have been quick to jump to either extreme in their feelings about him leaving ND.

Bottom line-- I think there is a lot of gray matter here still when formulating an opinion about this issue.

If we keep losing the few "Aaron Lynch-type guys" we WILL NOT compete in todya's college football landscape. But some of the posters on here are ok with that, as they're quick to just use the tired old "Well, I want guys that want to be at ND......" That's fine and all....but maybe some adjustments to how we do things so that Lynch-type guys will WANT TO BE HERE. Shep, Darby, Lynch....it's a pattern. There is a reason that we haven't won squat in decades. We build up these recruits, claiming that the experts are dumb and that we have the "diamond in the rough" guy ......but when we actually get a guy like Lynch, a bona-fide talent, he leaves the program. I don't care what any delusional ND homer says, WE NEED LYNCH GUYS. WE CANNOT WIN WITHOUT THEM. WE WILL NOT WIN ANOTHER TITLE WITHOUT THESE KINDS OF GUYS. You need proof? Check out the last, oh, 20 something years.

I'm tired of it. Frustration is at an all time high with me.

And save the damn academics/We do things differently argument. I've heard it all before and it's just the ND homers excuse that people outside of ND laugh at now. I used to use it, but I'm tired of making excuses.

Ummm...No, it's not. Do you enjoy constant 8 win seasons capped off by crappy bowl games?

I don't want to just "survive". I want to win. You cannot win in today's college football without guys like Lynch.

Believe it or not, this is a huge blow to our team personel wise.

And I'm done. Got it all out.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY do fans like you exist???? Have you ever followed other schools? How many years was Alabama irrelevant, before coming back and winning titles? OSU? Any of the teams out there now, remember when it used to be a completely different top 10? I do. This is the ebb and flow of college football. ND is on the right track, they look a hell of a lot better in 2011 than they did when Ty and Charlie were here. In case you haven't noticed, or choose not to recall, we have many BEASTS on the D Line. I've met Louis Nix, he's HUGE, bigger than Lynch. And I don't know if you missed the games where Aaron let his temper get the better of him and cost us many personal fouls, or gave our opponents first downs that they capitalized on. Aaron Lynch IS good, but he's not the BEST. ND will survive without him. But do me a favor, when ND is back in the top 10 this season, PLEASE do not post on anything expressing any type of joy over it.

I heard from a friend at USF that there is a child involved (he didn't say child to be, so who knows). If that's the case the kid is making the right decision.

Players these days jump from school to school, just a sign of the times. People need to take their meds and relax, give the coaching staff a full five years to work out the kinks and to get their recruits to their senior year. If the program is rolling then, good deal, if it is still sputtering change coaches then. What big time coach is going to be attracted to a program that doesn't even allow the coach to get his own guys firmly established in the lineup?

Winning is great and I want to win. However, the point of college sports is not just to win. That's the point of professional sports, along with making money. College sports is about so much more. Cut out everything just to win, then you've lost what it's about.

Wow very nice post. The only thing i disagree with is being a top ten team. We should be top 20 but top ten is really getting your hopes up.

"Contrary to published reports, Kelly did not block Lynch’s transfer to any other school — not that it was necessarily tested.

Some schools that were reported to be blocked didn’t request a release for Lynch. South Florida, the school most likely to be Lynch’s landing spot, did request permission to talk to Lynch and was not blocked."

From an Eric Hansen article. Feldman or whoever the one lone guy out there was with a "source" saying transfer destinations had been blocked appears to have been misinformed.

Is there a link to this article? I looked quickly on my phone but couldn't find it.

Believe me when I say that I am not happy with mediocre seasons and I am certainly not happy about losing Lynch or the others...., in fact Im pissed, but we need guys that want to be here...., I will agree that we need to figure out how to keep some of these guys on board, because losing guys like Lynch, Tee, Darby, Greenberry really sucks and it doesnt help our quest to return to glory. Losing Lynch was a huge blow, however I personally am tired of all the drama and am hoping our team will move forward in a positive manner.

Why do fans like me exist? Oh, I don't know. I could ask the same about lame-a$$ ND homers that rather than just look at facts, they continued to try and convince themselves that losing guys like Lynch is a "good thing" in the long run. I love ND as much as the next fan, but given the recent track record, I've become very critical, skeptical, (yes, sometimes downright mean) of the program and some of the decisions that have been made. Granted, the Lynch thing may not be "ND's Fault"....but it's just another thing to add to the list. And it seems guys like him want no part of ND....as great as fans like you make it sound.

So what's the problem here?

And what the hell does a persons size (Nix) have to do with them being a beast? I've actually played...played....with guys that were huge, but not really effective on the field(not saying that's the case with Nix). On the flip side, I've played with guys that were smaller...but had that nasty streak that you cannot coach. The one that Lynch had. The one that ND hasn't had in sometime. I'm glad that you met Louis Nix. Good for you. And if a guy's "beast" gauge is based on you meeting them in person...please go meet the rest of the team so they can all be "beasts" and we can win the nat title game next year.

ND surviving isn't what I want. It's not good enough for me. Nor my 3 family memebers taht graduated from ND. Surviving on NBC every saturday isnt' what I want, and it's not what you want either. I just choose not to sugar coat it.

But to each his own. I won't question a fan because he has a different POV.

Top 10

Top 10

ND was good enough to win all but one game last season. The only difference was bad luck and poor QB play bottom line. I can't remebr a season where we were competitive in every single game. Maybe Charlies first year but we were soft. This is not a sogt team. I think we will be pleasantly surprised by our DBs as Bennett will have 4-5 ints. I think the team will rally around the loss of Lynch and show they are a better team without him. This is still a team sport built on chemistry and Lynch could have ruined that for us. Knowing that now we are better off without him. Good luck with all the double teams he is going to see.

And I totally agree with you. I wasn't trying to be an a$$, but it's just freaking frustrating to watch these guys drop like flies and put on a happy face with an "ND will survive" attitude all the time.

Saying that player X is just as good as Lynch and we'll be fine without Lynch, you are kidding yourself. Please watch the video. This kid is just a freak of an athlete, I hope he takes care of his business, I'd love to see him wreaking havoc in the NFL one day.

And it doesn't matter if player X is bigger than Lynch. Lynch was lightning fast. Remember SEC defense speed? Yah, thats Lynch.

Losing to SFla and almost losing to Pitt & BC mean we are closer to top30 than top10. Please don't be delusional.

The things I won't miss about AL are the personal fouls and him not fighting through a block on a running play and instead getting blocked upfield and out of the play. Our defense will miss his 3rd down pass rush, however we should be able to efficiently replace him against the run.

MOD's really. Please shut this thread down. You also, on this thread, are giving someone who doesn't deserve it too much credit, and too much of an ego stroke, (pay off.)

And you are just making (huge) asses of yourselves.

And besides, KissMe is just going to kick all of your @sses into next Tuesday.

He was their best DL, they will miss more than just on 3rd down.

Not close to even being true. First part. Second part, they will probably miss his lively upbeat banter around the locker room. I am sure Harrison Smith is smiling right now.

I've stayed out of this thread simply because everything I said about Lynch when he decommited (the first time) all remains true today. No sense in repeating myself. My comments are buried in a thread with 100,000 responses on it and no one cares to look at it (including myself) because this saga for me is over.

I will say this however....no one thinks Lynch leaving now is a good decision, even ppl who hate ND and want to see 'the rats jump ship' they are laughing at ND because ND lost a great player; but at the same time they are laughing at Lynch because of the bad decision he made. No one thinks Lynch made good decision, but ppl named Lynch. Even florida coaches who want to him to play for their school now (they wont admit it, but they think he made a bone-head decision in leaving ND now, as well)

...i'm all used up on 'family emergencies'
