Just curious , who are the other category?
Bogs--how in the hell do you see see race "creeping into" this Hernandez shitshow?
stupidity-yes.
incredulousness-yes.
shock-yes.
racism-no. not at all. not even close.
I saw clear assumptions that poorer people, and the minorities behaved poorly because of race and class assumptions, as judged by us morally superior upwardly mobile individuals.
Per Schefter they've located a SUV they were looking for in connection to the 2012 homicides. It was rented by Hernandez.
That comment from Hernandez's buddy struck a chord. It's amazing how a few decades of good upbringing can bring down an individual if he hangs out with the wrong people. Not saying I can vouch for Hernandez's character in high school like his buddy did, but I saw my brother go through a transformation after we moved schools in high school. He started hanging out with a bad crowd, became a totally different guy. He's cleaned up now, but it set him back years.
Saw this quote:
A former high school teammate, Andrew Ragali, 24, said the troubled street hood he has seen portrayed on television is not the Aaron Hernandez he knew.
"You could maybe say he was immature, but he wasn't a gang-banger at all," Ragali said. "I think when he went to college things might have changed, hanging around with the wrong people, but in high school, he wasn't like that at all."
Found this interesting for two reasons; Isn't it racism and classism to bear false witness against someone, to wit claim they are a gang member because they were raised in a poorer household? And what does this quote say about the University of Florida, sociopath central?

AP-July 28, 2013 Police forces up and down the east coast are checking with rental car companies on Hernandez rental car history to see if they correspond with any unsolved murders in their area.

Had to google that.. Friday 13th reference... nice.Who is this guy? Jason Voorhees?
this case is so crazy, we already know what the headline will be a month from now.
I have to tell you guys, I am seeing racism and classism creeping its way into this thread. Racism is clear; by classism I mean the same sort of stereotypical false generalization about a different, usually lower class, than one belongs.

So police are legitimately exploring the possibility that he is a serial killer. This is cray
Pretty cool move by the pats..

To the extent this was directed in part at my "why are we surprised by this?" post, allow me to clarify. It seems clear to me that many of the social issues ravaging the African-American community are caused not by race, but by poverty. Those harsh conditions have created a culture which isn't easy to shed, even for those who suddenly find themselves wealthy.
And then there's the exploitation angle (enter Urban Meyer), which you touched upon in your most recent comment. Millionaire CFB coaches pluck kids out of this culture (usually in the name of "opportunity"), play them for a few years, and then spit them out; often without a degree, or having been improved in any meaningful sense of the word.
Bringing this back to Hernandez-- comes from a culture of poverty, played for an unethical douche bag like Meyer, becomes rich and famous in the NFL, but still turns out to be sociopathic thug. Why are we surprised by this? We shouldn't be.
And getting back to my first point, I attended a Catholic grade school in a very poor, predominantly Hispanic part of town. Most of my classmates were lower class, but they didn't come from a culture of poverty. That's an important distinction.
sadly, no one will turn them in--as they will be worth 100x the amount the paid on ebay now

I have to tell you guys, I am seeing racism and classism creeping its way into this thread.
My earlier post about racism and classism was intended toward comments, particularly those related to shows where "we" can "figure out" a whole groups behavior. More and more shows are calling themselves reality based and scaling that slippery slope, until you have the monstrosity put on TV about Amish mafia! That is life imitating fart, cause it is stereotyping, and a bunch of bad gas!
No it wasn't. It was about this thread, as you clearly posted.
And this isn't about race, AT ALL, and no one has made it about race. ND NYC was right in his response. There were no comments showing any type of racism whatsoever.
Exactly, someone mentioned a cable channel with a show that they used to get. And there were a few others, oversimplifying a complex and terrible issue. Thank you again for your attempt to clear things up! Back to eating rolls.
So much for being on your ignore list lol. You know bogs, this is clearly personal with you, so I'm going to let you backpedal from your original post on your own and let this be. Happy posting...
