When hired, Coach Weis said "When expectations aren't met, changes are made." Expectations weren't met and the change never came - ND underachieved. The ND Nation once again needed to go a new direction. Three games into the season, and keeping patient, ND Nation is still waiting for a change. Stanford is ranked. If we lose decisively - no change. If we play them tough and lose close - no change. When will the change come? When will we truly see a different team?

Well your name is IrishFaith so maybe you should have a little. Most of the successful coaches in the game today struggled through their first seasons. If we have a mediocre year this year it doesn't mean that Kelly won't eventually have this program up at the top of college football. But it might take some time.

If people don't truly see a change in our team this year it's because they aren't looking. The whole program has changed as well as the attitudes of the players. The change in our W/L columns will come, I'm already tired of all this wanting "instant gratification". DO people really think that the team and Kelly don't want to win? Have a little faith and show some positive support for the coaches, players and incoming recruits.

Very well put, one of the reasons Notre Dame is considered one of the toughest jobs of all sports is its Expectations. We are two or three plays away from being 3-0 and giving Kelly a 10 year extension.. LOL

How can you expect a significant change through three games or even through the first year? Another question I have for you is, how would you define change? Is it strickly wins and losses for you?
If you havent seen a change in this team thus far then either you havent watched the games or, your basing change soely on wins and losses. This team has changed dramatically through three games of BK's first season. Practices have changed according to every player on the football team that was here last year. A change has to start from the core of the program and that includes attitude, tradition, and fundamentals. If you havent noticed a change in those three then I would have to say that you stand alone. BK has embraced tradition and really challenged the kids to embrace it as well. I felt a lot better about our loss this year to Michigan State then I did our win against Purdue last year. This year we had kids on both sides of the ball playing their hearts out on the road in a tough enviornment. Crist has grown up before our eyes in three games and Riddick has become a reliable weapon. This team is changing internally and the results will show. The first two losses have been hard to swallow but I feel good about where this team is going. If your looking for a wins and losses change, you may have to wait until these kids really adapt to the system changes. It takes time but I am very confident it will with this coaching staff.

The team has changed as stated earlier. If you watch this football team you see alot of differences. The main difference that I see is the intensity of play and the fact that these guys fight for four quarters. Yes we have lost two close games thus far, but this team is headed in the right direction. I have a great feeling about this coaching staff and am optimistic about the future of this program.

And I'm sorry people. I really dont see any change. Maybe I'm blind. but when I see change, we will be winning 11 or 12 games a year. THATS CHANGE!!!!!! Losing close games just like last year is NOT change. BORING!

Same crap different day.

Great music in Texas you guys are right...love Stoney...but to the point of this thread, saying there has been no change b/c we lost a couple of close games to me says either you aren't watching the games, or you don't understand football.

Ummmm I watch the games. And I'm pretty sure I understand football. Is not the point of football to have more points than your opponent?????? I'm pretty sure last time I looked the point of football was to........win. So I understand football perfectly clear.

Give BK time

Give BK time

Your expectations are unrealistic, it is his fourth game afterall.

Good grief the ledge here is crowded with so many of the "faithful" ready to jump.

thanks for all the hits. I have all the faith in Kelly. When the Irish blasted Michigan in '08 I thought that was a much different team than I was used to seeing. I just can't wait for the Irish to really turn the corner. I don't know when or how that will be-I guess it will just be a gut feeling. Till then I will watch every Saturday ready for the outcomes we all want!

A few things...

- How many threads are there now just this week on this same topic?

- How many coaches have won national championships by their third game taking over an entirely new team?

- "If we lose decisively - no change. If we play them tough and lose close - no change." - How in the world can both of these things be true?

I know it is painful, but most change is painful. Kelly is rebuilding from the ground up and changing and shaking up almost everything. You want another Weis regime where we had a great couple of years and then our worst ever record or are you willing to let an architect build something strong that will last? Peyton Manning is the end all be all in NFL quarterbacks right now (maybe of all time), his first year record...3-13. Nick Saban's first year at Alabama...finished regular season at 6-6 and won a bowl game.

I understand that you are not necessarily jumping off the bandwagon, but do you at least see why constant posts like this get on the nerves of others on this site. Have you ever seen the old 60's/70's cartoon Gulliver's Travels? How did the others respond to the character Glum...check it out.

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

changing a culture of tyis team is going to take alittle time. they are playing very hard on te fielld and lets all be honest when you want something so bad you usually make a few mistakes because you are trying tol hard. It's only when you step back and relax alittle when things usually take off and go your way. we all knew the first part of this year wasn't going to be good because of the new system and new coaches. I think they have done a good job so far this year. we lost on a last minute drive to michigan and a fluke play to micigan state. there are mistakes that they have made that has lead to these loses but we all knew there was going to be mistakes early on.

we have the right coach in place and when he has time to mold the players we have and he gets his recruits in here we are going to be hell to stop.

I think you brought up a good point here..., we have to let the coaches mold and develop the players under this new system. One of the problems of recent years, was the inability to develop some of our players so they would reach their full potential...., I look at Coach Kelly's track record, and what he has done with lesser talent, should speak for itself. We have tremendous athletes on both sides of the ball, we just need to be patient and let the coaches develop these players, and let this new system get in place. It will take the rest of the year and then some.., but I think in the next year or two, we will see Massive improvements in all the areas.

Alright NDOM, that's fine agree to disagree....You keep basing your thoughts on the team, and their improvement on W's and L's only. I will choose to look at it from a more positive aspect in that, these guys are busting their humps on the field for these guys, which they didn't always do last year...The defense w/ the exception of a couple of big plays is WAY more sound/physical than last year, and the offense looks more and more difficult to stop every quarter they get under their belt.....Again, do what you gotta do my man, base it all on wins, I just have to find some positives on the way to those wins or I will go crazy.

For someone that obviously knows what's what with college football you sure seem to have very little knowledge of how these things work.

Believe me, I want to see wins now as much as anyone else, but I also know that sometimes it takes a little while when there's a regime change.

I see improvement, we just need the D to catch up.

Fellas, we have obviously two kinds of people who post on this board. There are those who see nothing but the final score---well, I can understand that [a little, anyway] while not agreeing with it. And there are those who look at smaller parts of the whole complicated deal. We believe that we are not irrational to do that given such an early beginning in a new regime. As far as I call tell, the individuals occupying the two sides of this are irreconcilable [at least I see no "movement" ever among the comments]. Probably we should just agree to disagree before the name-calling gets too bad. Of course some folks just love a fight so...OK to that too. [P.S. I'll happily accept criticism as a naive bonehead if I'm still faithful to Kelly in his third season and we aren't winning 2/3rds or better of the games.]

It amazes me how little some folks seem to understand about college football and how long it takes for "change" to take effect. Saban, Holtz, Bryant, the list goes on and on had some very bad seasons as they moved to new teams and were "building". Take a look at the recruits Coach Kelly is getting.......he is building a strong strong defense....Offense is being run by a very inexperienced guy and yet has moments of greatness......He will get better and better. Hendrix will be the man in a few years as well. the topside for the Irish looks fantastic down the road.

I have absolutely no doubt that Coach Kelly is the right coach at the right time to bring Notre Dame back to its rightful place. I expected him to lose a few games if not 6 or 7 in his first season. But for the first time in a few years I am very very excited about what the future holds.

It will come.....ya just gotta believe. I have been a fan all of my life and will be seeing another Irish National Championsip down the road with Kelly at the helm. gotta give him time.

I like the direction this team is going. To me, it looks like the team improved every week. At this pace Notre Dame will be a Championship caliber team comes November. I think that is all we can ask for.

Breaking bad habits, installing a new system, getting guys physically fit to a championship level, and changing the mentality are all things that takes some time. Some of these guys might have been 4-5* guys, but if you don't get proper coaching it ain't worth squat.
Be patient with Kelly folks, It's going to pay.

NDOM do you realize that every stroried program in this nation has had its ups and downs. Every one. No team dominates forever. It takes alot to make a winning program.
Such as
The drive to win and to always get better no matter how good you are
Attention to detail
The will to work hard and never give up
Love of the game/Brotherhood/Responsibility
Constant recruiting
Development of players and coaches
Nerves of steel
Players trust in the coaches and coaches trust in the players
Players trust in fellow players and coaches trust in fellow coaches
Support from the university

If you put these all together with a little time you get a winning program. Throw in a little luck and you get a national championship. So tell me NDOM which one of the things fom the above list do you think this team and staff are not adressing. Maybe we should sacrifice all of this list for a couple of wins right now or maybe we should build a program.
