He's not unlikely considering the experience of the '12 WR corps but 5th years aren't usually announced until after NSD.

If this is true then congratulations to him. Although he hasn't had the most impressive career at ND he does have plenty experience and could possibly have a Jonas Gray type of senior season if he makes the most out of it. Plus, he is a family friend and former teammate of mine in grade school and high school so I would love to see his career live up to what we all believed it could have been. He is a great guy, and definitely deserves it with the amount of work he put in.

Maybe a change in policy but I recall Kelly mentioning a 5th year player at his first NSD and getting in the doghouse as the Faculty Committee had not yet convened.

No offense to the Ft. Wayne news, but no 5th year decisions are actually made until after NSD. There is no doubt ND probably intends to bring him back though with us not having another WR on our radar. We'll see what happens though.

It's not news. It's an erroneous report. ND 100% does not make 5th year decisions before NSD.

The only way John Goodman gets a 5th year is if we don't end up with another receiver in this class and then the staff opts to use that scholarship for him. We have 6 open scholarships right now... 3 if Kiel + Armstead x 2 happens... which will then go to 1 CB, 1 OLB (if we can get Ekanem) and 1 FLEX (a WR or Goodman). In the event that we don't get Ekanem, there will be 2 flexible scholarships.

So KLM, Cave, Goody, Cwynar, Slaughter and Golic Jr. would be the 5th years under consideration...do we keep all 6? That Goody news threw me for a loop, even if wishful thinking by the local paper, as he would be 4th or 5th on this list in rank of importance/need.

Sad to think that these guys are waiting to see if someone better comes along before BK tells Goody, Cwynar or Golic Jr they have a roster spot? The rules of the game I guess...

If we land both Armsteads tomorrow, Cwynar might have to make way for Armond.

Goodman, Cwynar, and Golic already have degrees in hand, and they've all had ample opportunity to earn a 5Y. If the staff feels those scholarships will be better spent on incoming freshmen, there should be no hard feelings.
