So I read through the last three pages of the Derek Meadows thread to get a sense of the likelihood of him signing with ND. The sense I got was that ND's chances were low, and Michigan was now in the lead. Honestly there wasn't a lot of information. Would love to know if anyone still believes ND has a realistic shot? While there wasn't a lot out there when one googles Derek Meadows, the Michigan talking heads seem to believe they now lead, but that both Alabama and ND are still a threat. No one seems to have any inside information. Did I miss some major negative story? Thanks in advance for any honest reactions, even gut feelings....

Welcome to IE. You wouldn't happen to have a good salsa recommendation would you?

Why are we still arguing about this? Everyone should know how important recruiting is to college football. Just because some 3/low 4 star kids are playing well doesn't detract from its importance. Unless you think coaches like Saban, Meyer, and Smart don't really know how to run a college football program. Even Marcus Freeman would tell you that we need to land more 4-5 star talent
It’s starting to look like Smart might have shot his wad when paying top dollar for players was still considered cheating.

Talent is important but in this new era it seems like nobody is going to be able to stockpile it year over year like some teams used to. Maybe the balance is starting to swing back to coaching now?

This is the most annoying part.

We lock up most of our class early with kids who want to be at Notre Dame. Shoot up the rankings and everyone gets all hype. Then Signing Day gets close and the ones who want to play the game or sell themselves to the highest bidder commit to Tennessee or Miami or wherever the fuck and we drop down the charts, triggering the caterwauling from the usual suspects about how we'll never win a title recruiting like this.

I dunno. Check back in three years, when our four-stars have become grown-ass men and their fives are selling themselves again in the portal, and tell me who has a better football team.
It’s definitely a recruiting strategy to consider. We shouldn’t be in the market for low character kids that are only after the bag. I’d rather load up on 4 stars who want to be here and will develop here.

Realistically, we never stood a chance. Was out there from the beginning that hit wanted the glitz and glam of the SEC. Probably would of been flight risk defcon 4 had he committed here in the first place

Unfortunately dad was never in our corner and if it was purely a Derek decision he might actually be at ND.

Dad wants the SEC. Part of the reason for the Michigan surge is the bag and his dad was roommates with the Belleville (Underwood) head coach (at least so I’ve read)

has the measurables but didn't produce at all in HS, unless you are like Jared Verse who played football down the road from me at a local high school.... didn't do shit but was offered a scholarship to Buffalo just based on his size....well he blossomed in college 4 years later and is now likely Def rookie of the year....i don't think we are missing this one

What the hell are we doing here? We're about to go the playoffs. That's what. Should we fire MF because you're unhappy the recruiting class this year might not finish Top 10?

MF has markedly upgraded the talent from Kelly. Full f*cking stop. You're lying to yourself if you argue otherwise.

247 Team Composite Ratings for Notre Dame
2019:
843.29
2020: 866.56
2021: 853.74
2022: 868.32
2023: 870.70
2024: 905.52

The "rankings crowd" on this board are misinformed boobs. MF has improved the talent, he's built depth at every position on the roster, and he has shown an ability to get impact players in the transfer portal. He's been a marked improvement over everything Kelly has done, and that doesn't change because you panty grabbers are upset Meadows might join Underwood at Michigan.
We would be in deep shit if it weren't for the talent coming out of the last 2 classes.

On this board there is consistent whining about WR recruiting but our guys keep catching passes and blocking well for our RB's. I like where we are and as long as we continue to run the ball effectively, the receivers will get their catches regardless if the are 5 or 2 star recruits or Lax players.

Some ppl on this board have fooled themselves into thinking that you can compete for a title year after year while continuously settling for those recruits, not going to happen.

Let this kid walk...but also, man, this class is not looking very good on paper. Worst of Freeman's tenure thus far. Feels like the recruiting operation is gonna need to do some real soul searching and figuring out where/when to go all in with the NIL coffers in the HS ranks.
