This is so dumb and the first time I'm disappointed in how the kid is handling it. There is no benefit in waiting and you're doing a disservice to the schools by dragging it out.

If you want to flip, go ahead. But don't drag it out like this.

Who can actually name a time Tom Loy had the scoop vs any other reporter on an ND athlete? Not counting the Peyton Bowen love letter

I have no clue if Loy knows for certain that he will flip to Auburn on that date. I am assuming that Knight has let it be known that the timeline calls for a final decision on 8/30 and he believes that Auburn currently leads.

ND coaches know more than Loy or any other writers/reporters. The question is, have the coaches had blinders on for the last few months and are completely unprepared for a flip? The writing started to be on the wall a few months ago, so the ND coaches should have a plan.

I don't trust it's a good plan, as I think Deuce is a big reason we do NOT have any good wrs committed in this class.

They don't have blinders, full stop. Multiple reporters have stated they already have started preliminary contact/feelers with QB's committed elsewhere.

I think our lack of previous production since Claypool has much more to do with our lack of WR's than Deuce knight's decision. But you've mentioned your point 20-30 times over the past several weeks so lets just agree to disagree.

Whatever school he "verbals" to on this mythical finalization date he does or does not at this point have formulated in his mind will still need to continue ardently recruiting him from the very next day up until Signing Day and henceforth until he either becomes their starter/transfers/goes pro/graduates.

Listening to Power Hour--sounds like he's basically just favoring whichever school is the last one in his ear at that point of the day.

Seems to be highly impressionable. ND just needs to run the numbers on whether he's worth it or not.

Personally, I would just continue to recruit him up until Signing Day. He's worth the risk of ending up with no QB in the class versus the trade off getting some low 4-star/high 3-star as a consolation prize--that will just sit around until after his Sophomore Spring at which time he will transfer to Boston College or similar ilk.

Honestly at this point with as much drama that comes with this kid he was never going to play here anyway. He won't be willing to sit and I have a ton of confidence in CJ TBH

Last 2 years WR Play has stunk no doubt, but Kevin Austin had a good year 2 years ago. School with less WR production than ND are recruiting WR better and they do NOT have the QBs lined up we do. Florida State is a great example

We were significantly involved with 5 highly rated and recruited WRs and we went 0-5. There's more than just lack of play the last 2 years as we landed 3 good ones last year.

Pretty annoying if he's putting the date as the day before our season starts, hope the coaches are focused on the right stuff

Austin never really reached his potential. His best year was marred with dropped passes in crucial moments, and he was completely unable to beat tight coverages. 2021 was a decent year for him, but it could have been so much better if he pushed himself to hone his craft. Having a good WR coach probably would have helped too.

Obvs not in Deuce’s head, but setting a self-imposed but meaningless deadline two weeks in the future feels like the move of a kid who wants this to be over but can’t decide what he wants (or who he wants to disappoint).

This is the part of recruiting that I hate. Should be one of the happiest/proudest times of a young athlete’s life but all the adults involved have a way of sometimes making it very difficult.

Yeah I’m sorry but Kevin Austin has to be one of the most disappointing and underwhelming players we’ve had in recent years.

Loy states he's hearing something about the 30th and if something happens he is going to say deuce is flipping. Sounds like a great way to hedge his bets to me. But where there's smoke there's fire, at this point I still read that as status quo and not much has changed other than Auburn has probably implemented a deadline for deuce to drop a deuce or get off the pott

He didn't become what I thought he would so i'm not going to say I wasn't disappointed (especially for not coming back). But we have Tyler Buchner on our roster again, if you want to talk about disappointment. Austin had a 900 yd 8 td season at WR, that's a good year for a WR.

Tyson Ford a huge recruit just got medical status, same with Gobaira. Tobias, was supposed to be the next "great" wr. Kollie was supposed to be the next great LB, Styles was going to be the slot WR we've never had. Jordan Johnson was the 5 star we could never get, Phil J was we finally had a true dual threat QB.

I get Austin didn't become all that, but the dude at least had one good season for ND.

He racked up a lot of yards on poor defenses that season. He struggled in the two biggest games that year, Cincinnati and Oklahoma State. To be fair, he was pretty good for a half against Oklahoma State when their coverage was soft, Coan actually set a Fiesta Bowl passing record that 1st half, but when they wised up and played him tight 2nd half he completely disappeared. That was the story of his career, along with the drops.

Most of the guys you mentioned never played. They were disappointing in theory but we never actually saw their potential. Austin had flashes of good, even great-ness, here and there. But he never lived up to it.
If anything the fact that Austin played semi-well for one year (but like Ulukin said, not THAT well really) and then bailed to be on NFL practice squads is part of why he was so disappointing. Alize Mack is more of a comp.

Ryan Roberts just posted he doesn’t see a decision happening this weekend. Knight was targeting the 30th as the time to make a final decision.

Maybe we should get him to push for September 1st?

Loy expects a flip on August 30th.

Option 3: Loy doesn't actually know and pushing the timeframe out that far allows for him to weasel out of it if it doesn't happen. "It was going that way at the time, but things changed..."

Who can actually name a time Tom Loy had the scoop vs any other reporter on an ND athlete? Not counting the Peyton Bowen love letter

30th did not originate from Loy.

The only drama that comes with this kid is on this site and with recruiting sites. I remember trying to make a University choice…it was difficult. I only had my parents and friends to speak with not parasites like Tom Loy and the like. I also changed schools after one year but that wasn’t reported by any news article posted online. I think we should give these boys a little room and remember the only reason we care is because we are a fan of the team, not because we are a fan of the boy.

I keep saying it. These “verbals” are dumb and pointless in 2024. Once a “kid” turns 18 they should be able sign anywhere they want. Get rid of signing day altogether, make the ink at least a one year contract.

I've agreed with this, but I think they need to bring back one free transfer. If you sign and want to go to a different school the next day, congrats, one free transfer. Now you have to sit if you want to go anywhere else.
