If the 2026 class isnt borderline top 5, then idk when we make the jump. The momentum of this year will be more apparrent next year than with this one. Have to remember that this 2025 class is following two mediocre years, lowering the momentum MF had.
You absolutely nailed it here. When a team goes on a title run it usually doesn't boost recruiting until the following class, in this case 2026 class. You da man.

Listening to ISD power hour... USC out paid us big time. Maybe he still chooses SC? But SC ponied up and that's made very clear.

The other thing I'll add is it's almost as if the team and trajectory of the program hardly matter at all. Look at teams like Michigan, Colorado, USC, Florida, FSU, etc pulling in blue chips. Those programs are a dumpster fire, on the verge of firing coaches/staffs, likely probation, .500 records. Doesn't seem to matter.

Truly seems to be, drop a bag, that's it.
I not sure how you can include FSU in a list of teams “pulling in blue chips “. They are ranked 51st by 247 and have nine decommits since August

Maybe he's connecting more with USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, and Linebackers coach Matt Enzt?

Actually everyone's doing it. Oregon, OSU, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee... but you're leaving those out and the champion will probably come from that grpup.
Sure but they didn't just start picking up their NIL. Oregon's spending Nike money isn't new. UGA was dropping bags long before it was legal. Texas and OSU are competing in the space but they aren't driving it like the others. OSU is closer to our strategy of paying for established commodities. If Tennessee is dropping NIL bags for HS recruits they aren't as big as the other programs I mentioned.

Elite athletes don’t want to go to class. They want a football factory & that’s why the 5* kids go to Ohio St, Georgia, Texas, Bama etc

They can focus entirely on football & making money.

Thats just not Notre Dame.
This, and add in location/environment (agnostic of academics). USC, Georgia, Texas, Bama, and Columbus, Ohio are a hell of a lot different from South Bend, Indiana.

It takes a special kid (especially among the 4*s and the 5*s who think they are already NFL-bound) to pass up on the sunny weather and southern girls for the Notre Dame experience.

another reason to compensate them!

No-one tell me again that NDs NIL is on par with everyone else. Its just not.

Why? Because we lost a southern California kid to...Southern California?

Jamie at ISD is pretty adamant that this is all about the kid not wanting to leave home.

I'm listening to that podcast and that's not the message they're sending. They're adamant USC out paid us and question whether he would have still chosen USC regardless, but what's clear is USC NIL'd him more than us.

And before people go portal, that's a bit of a myth. We bat about the same in the portal as we do class averages. About 12th give or take.

It seems like having the best players is a bit of a curse right now for the big recruiting programs.
Maybe ND needs to splurge on keeping the coaches develop the positions well and get them the right kind of guys while at the same time going hard for the best but if they aren’t in for whatever reason so be it.

Also mentioned Madden and KVA share the same "agent". So they can't overpay Madden if it is more than KVA. That makes so much sense and something I did not consider

Or they can and it could become a problem with KVA. Or not, maybe he doesn't care about money? But I doubt we're paying KVA what Madden is making because Mike was about to jump out of his chair in talking about how much USC is offering.

This times 100 when factoring in the entire team. Trying to manage egos when it all eventually becomes known what everyone is making has to be next to impossible. Destroy a team culture in a heartbeat.

There's gotta be a happy medium somewhere between the doom and gloom "we can't recruit for shit" guys and the "man up you beta pussies, everything is awesome and MF can do no wrong" guys. Yes, we're in the playoffs and MF did a great job for the majority of the season and yes, our recruiting is not where it needs to be to sustain success for years to come. Both can be true.

I have no issue if Madden makes more money than KVA...if he were to get on campus and prove it. But right now, it simply can't be done. Sets a bad precedent this year and next. Agents talk

I think the portal rankings are kind of silly. ND has been very successful going to the portal and filling the needs of their roster. That matters more than some ranking.

Great so this "agent" knows who won't pay for his highly rated Polynesian kids

I don't think we'll ever land a bumper crop that puts us 1 or 2. I liken the success to the mid majors that beat the talented 5 star one and done teams in the NCAA tournament. Get those quality 4 star kids and the high 3 stars that can be developed over 3-4 years. Put a mature experienced team out there that has had to work to get there. They won't quit.

Will see what shakes out between now and signing day, but I can't recall a more different finish between on field performance and closing on recruits.

Usually there is some correlation between record and recruiting, but sheesh, the bag seems undefeated here..

Still a good class, but a few more holes that will need patched by the portal down the road.
The 2019 class was really meh coming off a great 2018 season. I'd say this class is considerably better than that one.

I don’t understand all the complaints re how we are spending money when nobody on the outside knows how we are spending our money
Literally this.

USC lost their most talented LB a week ago and they’re throwing a ton of money at Madden. Good for this kid to cash in on a school where his heart was all along.

Eh, if the word is we were outspent his heart was with the $$. Which we can’t blame the kid for.
