Great burst and length. Reminds me a lot of Keeley at the same stage.

CJ May could end up being an interesting story…….comes from a very small public high school in rural AL, less than 250 students. About 2/3 of the student population are deemed “economically disadvantaged”. The ND staff must really see something in him.

Looks like a decent player so far. He isn't going up against a lot of larger lineman, so he can get away with overpowering his opponents. I don't see great twitch or explosion.

He's going to be one of two vypers in the class.

He's a great athlete. Doesn't always appear twitchy but I think that is him being strict in his run lane duties. You can see on the plays where he is free to pass rush, he can flash some good moves. Looks/plays bigger than he is listed.

Opposite end from him is Jakaleb Faulk who is committed to Auburn. They seem to align him in different spots and rush off the edge more freely. Jakaleb's older brother is Keldric Faulk who who signed with Auburn in the 2023 class.

Curious why you say he's a great athlete? Guessing the Auburn commit is #5? He looks like a dude.

I noticed the Auburn commit, Jakaleb Faulk, doesn't swarm to the ball if the play is going to the opposite side of him. He's literally walking on the field at times lol

To be fair it's not his highlights. But you can coach that, you can't coach explosion/bend.

LMAO. He's not suppose to hustle to the other side of the field because the play went the other way? Highlight tapes are just that, highlights. Want to see what a player is all about? Pay attention to them when they aren't the focus of a highlight film.

His testing numbers show he is.

Because it wasn't posted in this thread, he reportedly has a 80" wingspan, 31" vertical, and a 10'+ broad jump.

I don't see the projection to an elite pass rusher. Though I do see the projection to a solid rotational vyper or End.

He's more Daelin Hayes than Julian Okwara.

Every team needs steady. But why would you take a verbal this early from a steady player?

Again I am not knocking him because I haven’t watch a single minute of film just going off the evals from other posters.

* after watching the video he looks much bigger than any other player on the field. He looks fast, his frame looks like he could add some good weight with no issues. He seems like a sound player, doesn’t bite on the misdirection plays.

Why is the comp like in that area of Bama?

I think the staff has determined they would rather build a foundation of steady and go big game hunting, rather than holding off and hoping to land big game and steady players at the last minute.

One teams steady player being another teams crown jewel and all that.

I don’t see daelin Hayes at all… daelin was very athletic in HS but kept growing and lost a bit of it… I see a coaching staff missing on top options at de and panicking/reaching

The difference between him and the other DE is obvious, the difference between him and say Logan Thomas is huge

I said he’s more Hayes than Okwara in terms of the type of player he is. Daelin didn’t win with speed and twitchiness. He had unique agility and balance for a guy his size, at an early stage.

No, I do not believe CJ is the same type of athlete that Daelin was but there is more than one way to make a productive edge prospect.

Agree, just don’t get the early acceptance of his commitment… we really need some athleticism at de

I think people are severely underrating May's potential as a pass rusher.

His film shows a lot of athleticism and twitch. But it's just inconsistent. He has plays where he shoots off the line with sheer quickness and the next play, it's not there. That's the big fix for May right now. But make no mistake, the athleticism and twitch is absolutely there. And we also need to remember this dude is a HS Junior. Consistency doesn't always come naturally.

Funny enough, Jamie at ISD compared him to Julian Okwara. If there's anybody I trust with evals on DL, it's Jamie.

What film is he reviewing?

He visited in person, so maybe his size actually checks out or is bigger than listed, and he's worth a flyer on? If an edge, his film is underwhelming. Maybe he's an interior prospect?

Blowing up Hayes to be a defensive end was a mistake in my opinion.

I’ll never forget that play when he was a freshman and carried a running back up the seam stride for stride. Should have stayed at linebacker in college.
