Larsen beat out these guys head to head and was one of the top TE recruits in the country early in the cycle, with offers from more or less everyone. It is what it is. I still think he’ll be an impact pass catcher in the slot and in an h back type role as tremble.
Too many parallels between this recruitment and Pyne’s. The recruiting of every position should play through an eval that old. Just like it should have with Pyne but that was one of Kelly’s faults. Shouldn’t be Freeman’s.

With guys like Greathouse and in the same class Gilbert, I just don’t see a need for a small and slow TE in the slot. Both WR seems plenty physical to block and are better athletes.

Could he be a contributor as a HB TE? Of course. But we should probably consider that Tremble ran a 4.65 (4.59 at pro day), vert of 36.5, and broad jumped 10’2”. Do we really think these are similar athletes?

Sounds like ND did all it can do here and they’ve jumped UGA. Next visit is PSU, then Nebraska. Cautiously optimistic
IB (Ryan Roberts, not Driskell) talked to the family and ND “jumped into the top 2” with UGA, & made his decision, “very difficult.”
Said he is doing his last two visits & then deciding, but it’s between ND & UGA.
Said there is a strong push for him to get out of Nebraska so he probably won’t end up there.

Would be great to have an uber athlete at the position to develop BUT my expectations are tempered as far as future production.

Still, you gotta take some Claypool's of the world at various positions when they fall to your tier (meaning Bama, UGa, OSU, Big NIL spender that cycle, passed)

That's not as favorable as it sounds. If you're not #1 immediately after a visit you probably never will be.

I'll take it. Then ND can keep hammering their TE centric offense and elite education.
Still a toss up, but ND had plenty to sell here

Loy’s comments make it seem like ND is in great position.

article posted above. He gave one quote in there that I thought was very interesting. When asked about did ND talk about NIL, he said

“We did talk a little about NIL, but I don’t want that to be involved in my choosing process.”
Gotta hope that’s the case. Would even out the scales quite a bit.

While Fong says other wise.

ISD thinks Nebraska is bigger competition here than UGA. A lot of conflicting reports today
I originally thought Nebraska was his most likely landing spot, but then I’ve read there is a push for him to leave the state by his family.
And the family said this morning his top two are ND & UGA.

How long does ND wait until they expand the board?
All in on Nelson until he commits to a school. If he ends up committing to the school with grown ass man barking like dogs, then we can expand the board and probably still land a very good 4 star TE, until then all the focus on Nelson

I don’t think they will expand the board beyond Nelson. He is a luxury pick, not a necessity.

I disagree. Of course he is a luxury pick but there are a lot of very very good TEs that would be very high on ND if we pushed. High 4 star guys.
The problem is they want 2 in 2025.
And they really like a few top 100 kids that really like ND too.
If they take 2 this year, they probably only get 1 next year. So the 2nd this year would have to be an elite talent like Nelson.

I don’t think good players are a luxury for an ND program in pursuit of championships.
I think ND should be getting the best TEs most years otherwise it’s a failure.

Waiting for next year is almost without fail bad policy. This is a what have you done for me lately business no position coach or dare I say head coach is guaranteed any future year. Stockpile talent immediately and non contributors have a fair choice of stay for a free degree or transfer for playing time elsewhere. Too many injury concerns of current players at the position and Larsen is more H back than traditional tight end. I would feel much more comfortable with one more “real” tight end type.

Call it whatever you want. I don’t think ND needs another TE in this class. But you take a freak like Nelson. Unless there’s another one out there, no need to reach for another guy to fill a spot that doesn’t need filling.

If we miss on Nelson, offer 1 (or both) of the Chicago area blue chip TEs and flip him. Simple.
