Genuine question: How can he practice with the team now? Like, I get he is an EE, but how is he able to participate in practices from this season? I know it doesn't really matter, but... just seems like it would go against what the NCAA would allow in terms of years of playing.

EEs are now allowed to participate in bowl practices per NCAA rules.

The ND pessimist in me thought the bump was a pre-enrollment transfer announcement. Transferring is so en vogue right now, so why not.

So if Angeli enters the portal and Minchey starts the bowl game and gets the wind knocked out of him, CJ is playing?

I'm not 100% sure about this, maybe TTown or Bishop can correct me, but I think Jalen Hurts enrolled early at BAMA and was a part of bowl prep and "played Deshaun Watson" on the scout team for them. I know Nico Iamaleava was on the sideline for Tennessee for the bowl game against Clemson. I think they both signed their NLI prior but early enrollees participating in bowl prep has been a thing, glad ND is doing the same now.

generally what these kids do is take part in bowl prep practices, then go to their AA games and then come back to campus to begin their enrollment proper. Sounds like CJ is skipping his AA game though to remain on campus

I think Bama has done this with a few guys? I seem to remember there being an article about a DB taking part in their bowl practices before he officially enrolled. Although, maybe I’m wrong.

Edit: they had 6 guys do it last year.
