Did you miss this part of my post?

It’s ok to recognize that multiple people played a part in Ridder’s success. It wasn’t all GG.

I never said not to mention Ridder either. You said that.

It’s almost like you didn’t even read the words in my post. At all.

Will it be fair for other coaches recruiting Carr to mention the fact that if he was such a great quarterback coach, then why didn’t GG’s own boss hire him to coach…quarterbacks? Fickell has obviously been around him a lot and thought so much of him as a QB coach…to hire him to coach another position.

Every school and coach can simply point to having some kid drafted by the nfl. That’s all there is with Ridder so far. He struggled when he finally played.

Many schools and coaches will be able to show the Carr family a hell of a lot more success stories than Desmond Ridder. Ridder is a great success story for…Cincinnati. He’s not as big of a story when you’re going up against other coaches who can talk about the multiple QB’s they’ve had drafted.

Should GG use Ridder? Of course. But as I originally said, he and the OC need to do a lot more than merely mention “Ridder” to convince a great QB to come to ND.
More semantics than anything, but ND has already convinced Carr to come to ND. They just need to re-affirm the decision he already made. IMO re-affirming a decision someone has made is loads easier than trying to convince them to come to ND in the first place. I.e. Ian Moore.

All very true.

Whatever the case may be though, my point was just that ND needs to say more than “Ridder” to seal the deal.

I know Tommy had to say more than “Book” to sell the Carr’s, as that’s not a huge feather in his cap. Sure it’s a feather, but not the one that sold them originally.

Loy gotta sell subscriptions somehow.
Loy is a complete joke at this point. He lost his insider. His list of 17 candidates for offensive line coach or whatever the number was served as the final straw. He has got no idea on what is actually going on. Now he’s just trying to generate things

Rees wouldn’t be a piece of shit like that, right?
Oh but how he was so loved on this fucking board.

I always thought he sucked and am glad he was whisked away by Saban on his Pimp Daddy Jet - what awful optics that was. And despite the OC Search being a total shit show, I am hoping Parker knows what a Wide Receiver is and convinces Hartman not to bolt after Spring Ball and knows how to open up this way too conservative Rees offense.

Most of these guys are tools. Looks like the Reeses gave out plenty of information....probably smart effort to control the narrative. Wasn't our offense like 61st last year? Yea I would be controlling the narrative too!

But paying for information from these clowns is pouring money down a rat hole. SMH.

I'm just going to bury this because I confuse easy.

I'm sorry in my original 21 word post that I somehow implied GG and Parker didn't need to do more than merely mention Ridder to convince anyone to come to ND. Might be dumb, but I ain't stupid.

I am optimistic about this hire because of the work the guy did with said player when he became QB coach at UC. I do not know or give a fuck about the circumstances as to how and when he was hired at UC, only that he became QB coach and then they went on a pretty good run with a pretty good guy who was no one as a recruit and had a great college career that resulted in him being a third round pick and eventually taking some knocks as a rookie in the NFL.

I am viewing the history of this assistant coach as a positive and know there is far more work and grinding that needs to be done in order to convince the players and fans they can do the job.

That's really it.

I don't know how Gino will do at ND. He seems to be a pretty good QB coach. Really nothing more, nothing less. But whatever the case, he, and Gimmy Parkhard, are going to have to point to a lot more than "Desmond Ridder" as the reason Carr should come to ND. Gino wasn't even the coordinator or head coach, who probably had as much to do with what successes Ridder had as Gino.

Counterpoint:

Fickell didn't really fuck with the offense besides saying "go for it" on a lot of 4th downs, and I could also swing a pretty good argument that Ridder had a lot of success DESPITE Mike Denbrock being his OC, rather than BECAUSE of it.

Ultimately, the most impressive thing about Ridder was the way he grasped the mental control of playing QB over four years, the way he knew when to take shots, when to attack the middle of the field, and when to pull it down and use his athleticism. It would have been easy for him to simply rely on his 4.4 speed through his career, but he instead developed into a legit QB that killed teams whichever way worked best.

If I had to assign credit:

40% of the credit goes to Ridder for simply being a smart dude that stuck around long enough to mentally develop on his own.
30% goes to Gino for teaching him how to be a QB, not just a dude with a live arm who could run.
20% goes to Fickell for building a great team around him.
10% to Denbrock for calling deep passes at appropriate times.

After Fickell got the job at UC in December 2016, Guidugli called Dantonio, one of Fickell’s mentors as a young assistant at Ohio State, and asked him to put in a good word. Fickell remembered Guidugli as a quarterback but didn’t have an opening at that position. Instead, Fickell called Guidugli looking for some insight on another coach on CMU’s staff.

“I talked with him for maybe 10 minutes, and you’re so used to getting the company line when you’re talking to someone for the first time, but he was much more honest and blunt,” Fickell said. “That was unique. I kept thinking, ‘I like this guy.’”

Fickell didn’t know it, but Guidugli was ticked off during that call, hoping Fickell was calling him about a potential job. It all worked out in the end. Fickell realized Guidugli had a few years of experience as a running backs coach, and when Cincinnati had a surprise staff opening pop up at that spot a month later, Guidugli had done enough to win over Fickell.

“No-brainer. Done deal,” Fickell said. “It was refreshing to get that true, genuine vibe from him. That was something I never forgot.”

How funny would it be if Tommy boy landed Sayin and Carr?
Well I believe he evaluated both and liked Carr more. Perhaps if Carr wants to go to Alabama he might be okay losing Sayin? Sayin was high on ND at one point earlier in the process. Perhaps Sayin might come back to ND then.

So it might be crazier if they flipped schools. Both look to be very good QBs.

Is the Gino G hiring official yet or in the middle of the month long background check?

Sayin is visiting Alabama for four days in March. As long as Carr visits in March I don’t think there should be any concern. The sooner Michigan and OSU land QBs the better
