His name and DNA come with baggage. Then add in a few cocktails of crazy.

I'm all about him as an individual because I hope he gets the degree and rises above who his parents are. Make the most of the hand you were dealt and then play your own hand in life when the cards are shuffled. He has a tremendous opportunity here and I hope he takes it.

Yeah the story between his parents was *something else* and his dad’s a piece of work to boot.

Can’t hold that against him. Hoping the best for the kid.

I know the parental issues with this kid, but other than him being a dumb ass and trying to fight Bas Rutton, whats his deal?

Some of his social media behavior has had the Bears and former teammates distance themselves from him even though he's done playing. That's not anything spectacular in the last 7-8 years but he's one of those guys nevertheless.

Most recently he said some pretty questionable shit about CTE and undermined former players he claimed were faking it to get money out of a lawsuit. Lots of things wrong with that, mostly that when he said this there was no pending lawsuit and it had been settled years ago.

He's just an asshole and the thought of him lurking around Notre Dame gives me a great deal of pause.

Genetic testing was needed to confirm Kennedy was Brian's son.

But yeah, I'm the asshole.
Why is that a big deal?
When I was in Maternal & Child Health medicine we did thousands of those tests a year in Indiana alone.
It’s actually pretty common.

Because he basically denied he was the kids father until the test proved otherwise.

Sampson piece from last month. Brian basically talks shop with him about the game but is more a dad than a coach. Kennedy, like all teenagers, is coming around to the idea that dad knows what he's talking about (when it comes to the gridiron.)

I really have not brought anything positive to the thread today. My apologies. I want this kid to take the ND experience and run with it all the way for the next 40 years. Not a huge Brian Urlacher fan off the field, and the mother has had her issues. Just rooting for this kid. I'll leave it at that.

I agree with you about the Dad. I'm not a huge fan of his either but you can't bring his son down because of what the dad did. There are countless cases throughout history where less the perfect people have children that rise above who they were. We should let this kid write his our story.

Just hope genetics gave him the crazy dad had on the field. Then we'll have a player.
It's up to the kid to capitalize on the opportunity off it.

I know nothing about the kid but I grew up with his step dad who allegedly committed suicide. Who knows what the hell happened the day he died. I have my own opinions that aren't worth shit. Seems like the one positive from the story is that this kid escaped a shitty situation and he's doing well.

Whatever you want to say about Brian, he was able to pull the kid out of a dysfunctional home and raised him well enough to go to ND. That's a win.

I literally have no idea what any of you are talking about in regards to his backstory. Why is Brian the devil? What’s wrong with his mother?

Is it really bad enough to impact how we view Kennedy?

I wasn't bringing Kennedy down. I've stated multiple times I'm rooting for him. I also don't expect him to wind up in Canton, OH one day. Not fair to him to place those expectations on him because of who his father is.

Sampson's article put a different perspective Brian the parent. ND has had professional athlete fathers within the program before under Kelly. Freeman was a teammate of Urlacher's in Chicago very briefly. Highly doubt there would be any issues the more I give it thought.
