Schools have been doing NIL illegally for years now. I had a previous ND player tell me that back in the day this woulda been the 1985 team that Oklahoma players had the nicest cars in the parking lot lol. And wouldn't you know Oklahoma won a title that year.

There is a bit difference between getting hooked up with a car though and what these kids are getting. Once you put it out in the open.... oof

I wouldn't say it's the go-to excuse, but it's something that this staff has going against it in a lot of recruiting battles.

ND lost Moore and Keeley due to NIL. Straight up. The school's refusal to allow the collective to throw a guaranteed deal to the two most important positions cost them two high level recruits.

Edwards wasn't lost due to NIL. He had a prior relationship with Deion and that changed things drastically. Not to mention he has an opportunity to be THE guy at Colorado, which was less likely at ND with the sheer amount of skill talent coming in.

Frankly, if I'm Brady Quinn, I'm getting to the point where I say "fuck ND" and just use the FUND and extend some guaranteed deals to 5-star QBs. We didn't have to worry about it with Carr, because the dude is just a ND guy (strange given his background). But when the opportunity arises for us to close in on a Keely-type recruit, ND needs that ace in the hole, because it's not going to be the last time it burns us.
He should do it. Fuck the Administration, if their heads are too far up their ass to see the importance of football, they don’t deserve respect. That’s assuming the kid is qualified academically, which Keeley absolutely was.

You can’t pay a kid millions of $ under table, that’s the big difference.

The thing I don't understand is why the administration has to be involved at all. At most schools, the administration has nothing to do with it. Coaches are back channeling with collectives regarding the top targets and the collectives are working it out with players and their families.

What is stopping an ND collective from just going rogue? They don't need the school's blessing; that isn't what NIL is about.

Yeah. Think they had Cam Newtons dad on tape talking about $100,000. He’d be getting 50x that in today’s market. If the numbers we hear are accurate.

ND has always prided itself on never letting the tail wag the dog, so the admin is usually involved in big decisions that could impact the school’s reputation. Since P4P is still illegal, that would count.

Getting blackballed by the school is what’s stopping them. They want to win, but not at all costs, and they’re not willing to burn bridges with ND.

Lendale White recently said in an interview that there was a random bag in his apartment with 150000 cash in it. That was one occurrence, and he wasnt even their best player

I also know of a certain BIg 10 receiver that was paid close 500000 over the few years he was at that school.

What’s wrong with following the same rules as everyone else? As long as the player meets the academic requirements, what’s the issue? There’s no trophy for abiding by NCAA rules, they have no authority. That doesn’t mean you have to be like Texas A&M, but stop dragging your feet.

That’s why Pete left and went to the NFL. If blogs knew about the rumor than you know the NCAA did. It was just a question if the cowards at the NCAA were gonna do anything.

Most of us like ND because they are different. If you don’t like that you don’t have to cheer for them nor do you have to log on here.

When it really comes down to it, I like ND because a guy connected to Al Capone was interested in my grandpa's oldest sister during The Great Depression. I guess I figure we all get here different ways, let's just enjoy the game.

Being different doesn't equate to playing with one hand tied behind your back.

I respect ND's unique qualities and their emphasis on educating their players and making sure they're receiving a legitimate ND experience. That doesn't mean they should be against accepting more undergrad transfers or allowing the NIL collectives to do more to assure kids stay on board.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive.
