We’ll be fine. This is the game right now but it’s not sustainable, not even for Oregon. And we have a lot of good football players who chose Notre Dame for the right reasons. Celebrate them.

As for Bowen, I just kinda feel bad for the kid for handling the biggest moment of his young life in such a classless fashion.
Why would you feel sorry for him? He just proved that he's a complete classless ass-wipe! What a prick! Oh well, it is what it is! Next?!

Why would anyone want this to end? The off-season is long and boring. We’re playing with house money at this point.
Last night was the solstice so this all kinda makes sense.

The nights are long and dark and full of NIL recruiting world terror.

people can grow/improve, and this is a relatively public mistake.

There's one of three things going on IMO.

1. He's trying to squeeze them for more money.
2. Mom is in his ear about long term vs. instant gratification and honoring your word.
3. Freeman told him if you aren't picking us, you better have the contract reviewed and signed before you send in your LOC.

The thing is, in the back of his mind he KNOWS that he literally had nothing to do with the majority of these kids signing. He KNOWS they came for the money, not the relationship.

That’s a scary thing for him, because if he doesn’t figure out how to win with these recruits he’s bringing in, his seat will be hot pretty quickly.

I haven’t seen anything yet to convince me he can actually coach at the necessary level. Dude is just a young Venables at this point…and even that is generous.

The guy seems like an arrogant douche, but let’s be real here. He is already off to a great start there.

Season started with a humiliating bloodbath at the hands of Georgia, and Bo Nix looked like Bo Nix.

Bo Nix found his mojo, and they bounced back from that horrible first game to reach a top ten ranking.

They finished 9-3, and had a chance to play for the Rose Bowl until the final week of the season.

Under his watch, they fixed Bo, and are trending upwards.

If we are being honest, there are some parallels between him and MF.
-young
-energetic
-defense guy
-people questioned if they were ready
-both weathered an early storm and alleviated many fan concerns

You can argue none of the recruiting success of transformation of Bo into a star college QB isn’t his doing, but he IS the head coach. You can’t completely ignore his hand in anything.

How's this a thing anymore when it's electronic?

It at least can be now, some kids definitely signed electronically like docusign. I assume he is signing physically and is scanning it.

The thing about Dan Lanning that makes him such a loser is that he, personally, isn’t doing anything. It’s not his money. He’s not the one putting in work on the trail. He’s walking around like he’s got some big swinging field but it’s actually a shriveled little raisin. What did he actually do this year? Lost by 50 to Georgia and then dropped a few more games against a soft schedule?

At least Mario Cristobal is keeping his mouth shut while Ruiz finances his rebuild.

Screw this guy. What a douche. Also it looks a lot cooler if you don’t wince and cough while smoking the cigar

What a dork…Act tough and wince - maybe don’t do it if you can’t without looking like a 16 year old trying a cigarette the first time. I expect failure. I expect failure without any real prior success nationally and for it to be an entertaining situation

Yep. He walked into probably the most talented roster in the Pac-12 (thanks to Cristobal), got smacked around by Georgia and couldn't even make the conference title game. Better win big, and soon, Dan.

This is the part I have a hard time understanding. Kyle Hamilton should be THE reference point for any 5* kid with interest in ND. Sure, he didn't get a bag up front, but he made BANK while here. How does this not resonate with kids?

They are lazy now. They don't want to wok for it. Again Kyle had a good parents and raised with respect.

We're living in an instant gratification world. Kids are getting offered millions without doing any work at all. Can't say I blame them. It's the old cliche don't hate the player hate the game

I don't like the game but it is what it is. The problem i have with it is the parents and kids are flat out lying to these coaches. That's the disrespectful and it's bullshit. I am not saying our coaching staff is perfect but I can tell you that our staff we genuine with these kids and not just blowing smoke up their asses.

Also: these losses hurt, but the fact Freeman is swinging and fouling a few off before striking out is good to see. He will knock a few out of the park. He’s not out there trying to find the next Joe Schmidt, he’s legitimately big game hunting.

MF played a huge hand in securing Sneed last cycle (athlete from SEC country we normally aren’t in mix for), and I fully expect more of that.

It’s also not like we are used to getting 5 stars. Since the 2011 cycle, we have had 7 per 247, so about 0.5 a cycle:

Sneed (huge win)

Mayer (Midwestern kid from catholic school going to TE U, not a huge stretch for staff)

Smith (Indiana kid from catholic school, not a huge stretch for staff)

Redfield (huge win)

Kiel (Indiana kid with ND ties, not a huge stretch for staff)

Lynch (huge win)

Ishaq (huge win)

I’m not dismissing the enormous win guys like Mayer, Smith and Kiel were, they are all timers (sans Gunner), just pointing out their recruitment wasn’t as labor intensive as the others.

OU goes from no hat on the table to winning?

None of this makes sense and is fishy at the least

My read is Dad wants Oregon, Mom wants ND. His “family decision” was agreeing to choose between them then.

OU is either the comprised winner or not even on the table.

OU likely made a best offer that was lower than Oregon so he chose Oregon. Then after reconsidering/finding out the money isn't exactly what he thought, he's now considering the 2nd best offer. I wish we were the 2nd best offer but I doubt it. I think we have a competitive pitch for him and ways for him to capitalize but we don't have bags of cash from what I've read/heard.

So.....here we are. A guy who just pulled the most lowclass recruiting move to ND is now going to have them finish 2nd again.

Oh well, I'll just be happy Dan in Oregon won't get one of his prized recruits and maybe he'll chock on his cigar a little more.

So if he flips before noon, he’ll have been committed to 3 schools within a 24 hour period.
And the period doesn't end until tomorrow night so there's still time for him to flip again!

Nope. I don’t want anything to do with a guy like this. If you’re going for the buck, you’re going to be a problem. Let him be someone else's problem.
