I don't each recruits financial situation, but this is absolutely true for a lot of prospects. For example, Kyren Williams was not coming to ND from a great financial situation, and something as "small" as $50k could've gone a huge way towards helping his family. If you can get that money up front, why not take it? I can't say what I would do in someone's shoes, but if my parents were like "you need to make a family decision here" I think I'd probably listen to them as a
Would also note that raising an elite football player - between camps and coaching and everything - is not an inexpensive proposition for a lot of these families. Depends on the kid but can easily be tens of thousands of dollars over the years.
Some, including Love, also attend private school, at least in part for the athletic opportunities. And even if you get some aid that’s not cheap (Tuition at CBC is nearly $18,000 a year).
So if someone wants to write you a nice check upfront to go play big-time college football and your parents can see some of that investment returned sooner, I can’t say I blame them for letting that influence their decision.
Like Lax said the biggest problem here is there’s no rules. Everyone’s just playing by their own.
