I think the fact that the dude is deemed athletic enough to play Rover at 6'4 230 as a junior is pretty telling that he is an athletic freak of nature.

I do think he ultimately grows into a Vyper, as he has the frame to grow into the 250 range.

And if ND ends up with a DL class of Keeley, Vernon and M'Pemba, that's an elite unit. It just needs a big-time interior player. Problem is, I don't know who that is right now.
Jason Moore hopefully

Probably needed to clarify, but I was more referring to a 1 tech.

I think Vernon will ultimately move inside, but I think he'll end up being a 3 tech. We need an elite nose, and a big one at that.

Going into this year, our 2 deep at 1 tech is likely going to be Jacob Lacey and Howard Cross, both of which are currently listed at 275. I think both guys can ball for sure, but we're going to be really small at DT, unless those guys get considerably bigger as seniors, which I don't see happening. It doesn't need to be a Jordan Davis type monster who's 6'6 360, but maybe a Christian Wilkins 6'3 315 level interior type, would be nice.
Yes, an elite ng

We got a couple of large young men in the last class. Jason Onye is 6’5 289 and I believe young for his class. Rubio is 6’5 1/4, 290. It’ll be interesting to see where the staff and age takes those two.
Very true.

Didn't really factor them in, since they were recruited as hybrid 5T/3T kind of players.

But both have the frame to put on an additional 20-30 pounds and get up to 310-320. I just wonder if that's in their best interest and best maximizes their particular talents.

hopefully Aidan Keeaniana developes and Lacey moves around. Lacey is my pick for a big year.

Just thankful he didn't commit to ND so we'd have to suffer another elite player locking in early only to get heavy interest from other schools.
Or want to visit another school....oh the misery these 17 year old kids put message boards through

Good news that he is going to be back for another visit.

Official locked in for the June 10th extravaganza per Singer. Would be a luxury to get him at this point, but he's probably my favorite non-QB recruit in this class.
Is this gonna be his 2nd or 3rd visit to campus? Would be a huge W to land him but I won't get my hopes up yet.

At least third. He was close to committing in fall.

How is he a Luxury? ND still needs another LB.

Maybe luxury isn’t right choice of words but you think he actually ends up at LB? Think he’s gonna be too big IMO. Def want regardless of where he is, but was saying more in light of defensive line recruiting

I do. He's a freak athlete. Plus that is what the staff is recruiting him as. Maybe he moves to edge but I see LBer too.

Kareem was supposed to move inside. Mills as back on the edge. Troare and Vernon are not both going to move inside. I still remember people wanting Jack Lamb to move to edge when his strength was always pass coverage. Not everyone will add 50 pounds.

If he’s gonna play WILL LB he’d have to be an athletic freak to the degree of Parsons which I suppose his possible but not to be planned on.

ND is telling him Vyper/Rover while at the same time the staff is saying in spring pressers that Vyper might as well equal Rover for Botelho and others in many responsibilities and snap usage.

The result? M’Pemba would be a likely 3-3-5 OLB Hybrid IMO.

The future of Vyper and Rover with more likely 5 DB sets is who in the room is rushing the passer on a passing down, who can drop, and who can set the edge with DE caliber ability on standard downs. If one kid can do it all? Well that’s what recruiting 5 stars like M’Pemba is for.

I understand that ND recruiting appears to be at its best in decades but I feel like if ND can land M'Pemba that it would officially make ND recruiting at the level with the elites.

Yes, this one player will determine everything.

But what about Moore? What about the other DL we're hoping to receive commitments from? I also love M'Pemba as an athlete but I don't know why he alone declares our class to be elite? I would think all the other recruits that combine for our highest average (maybe ever?) means we're recruiting at an elite level.

I see what you are both saying. Yes, obviously you are right. They all are of extreme importance. M'Pemba is the typical freakish defensive athlete that we don't often get. If we get him and Keeley in the same class on opposite edges of the defense. Look out!

Yup - it's just an arbitrary thought. Even though ND doesn't get the flashy QB over the years I still feel like they are in it for some each year. Truth to that, maybe not, but that's how it feels to me. I also, believe that ND gets some solid dlinemen each year but it's not normal to get projected absolute studs. Keeley wasn't up there to begin with but now he is so seeing him and the possibility of M'Pemba puts it in a tier above Tuitt/Lynch.
