My most hopeful reading is that Moore knows his preference but has been advised to hold out on the assumption there's a seven figure payday involved if only the alums were sufficiently motivated. And perhaps they are second guessing that strategy today.

So according to the article below, we won't get a top 5 class without Dante (not sure I buy that). But it begs the question then... Brian Kelly had the #6 class last year. So if MF doesn't have a better class than Brian Kelly, does that make Brian Kelly a better recruiter? Boy would this question piss some people off on IB.

This sounds like the most likely scenario reading the tea leaves. They wanted to commit but do visits to see what he could get after Nicos deal. He either had second thoughts or overplayed his hand & ND decided to move on.

Going after 5* players in the current NIL climate was going to be risky. Even if he committed (or we took Vizzina), there would be excessive anxiety about the commitment until signing day. At least this way there's time to work on a plan B.

It feels like Dante (or his camp) thought he was the big boss #1 domino and everything was static, waiting for his move. All of sudden there are these other dominos falling and he may not be as in charge of the process as he thought he was.
