I get the point you're trying to make but I can't subscribe to this attitude. So, since we haven't had an NFL caliber QB in 15 years (which one could argue directly correlates to why we haven't gotten over the natty hump), we should just throw in the towel and only recruit guys who are < 5 star caliber? Or, when we lead for the 5 star guy, we should recruit another guy and piss him off just because of a track record from a previous coaching staff? We have to give Freeman a chance to show what he can do as the head man. They're not wrong on the poor QB recruiting. It's been what...15 years since we've landed a 5 star, and it was Dayne Crist? In previous years we went for the low/mid 4 star talent and locked them up. With Freeman's push to bring in top talent, is it his call to focus on Moore and not pursue any others? I personally think Moore is out of our league, and for that reason we shouldn't be pursuing him alone. The fact is ND just hasn't produced QB talent for decades, not the kind that succeeds at the next level. We've had some good to great college QBs here, but if you're one of the top QB talents in the nation you just don't come to ND if the NFL is your target. I think that's a big reason Moore will ultimately go elsewhere. I'd love to be proven wrong. Development aside, I'm willing to bet someone will offer more $$$ too.
I disagree and actually believe it's the opposite; it's time to swing for the fences, which is exactly what they're doing here. If we don't hit on Moore, it won't be great for our QB room's depth but we will be "fine" with Buchner &/or Pyne, and Angeli, with the potential for another 3-4 star somebody by the end of this cycle. Then, we can focus on hitting one of Sayin or Carr in '24. Plus the transfer portal as Plan C, a-la Coan, which worked out pretty damn well if you ask me.
In summary, I truly believe with Buchner having 2-3 years of football left here, with Angeli providing a decent "high-floor, low-ceiling" skill set, this is the prefect class to go all in on that difference maker in Moore.
As far as QB development goes, it's hard to argue that Rees didn't squeeze every ounce of talent out of Ian Book that he had, and despite popular belief, Coan had one helluva season last year, especially in the second half. I think Rees deserves the benefit of the doubt there.

Rees was LITERALLY the QB that unseat our last 5* talent to become starter because that 5* talent didn't pan out. The whole thing is ironic. Bottom line: would love to have Moore, but I have a bad feeling he's not coming, and I think it's out of Rees' hands due to no fault of his own. On the flip side I'm also fine with Buchner, Pyne, and Angeli so whatever happens happens and we'll survive.
