ND really needed a commitment so they could use it to get other elite offensive recruits to commit.

I think anyone that was expecting a commitment during or immediately following this visit has a brain full of lollipops, rainbows and cheese.

Sure, but nothing has changed other than the irrational expectations of fans who HOPED he would commit on this trip without any evidence that was even in the cards.

So don't blame those of us who are deciding not to panic because something that was never expected to happen didn't happen
something has somewhat changed.

While everyone knew a committment THIS WEEKEND wasnt likely, there were hopes, and what sounds like maybe some expectations from the staff, that visits to other schools wouldnt occur going forward.

I agree panic isnt needed but I can certainly understand why there is some skepticism and critique in regards to recruiting the QB position, considering history and currently perceived landscape.

I do think we should see what the next week or two brings us as far as updates.

I'm going to take a BIG grain of salt about anything coming from reporters covering other schools.

Imagine the roles were reversed & a QB target we had just had a great visit, lots of positive coverage from that side, and he told us he "might visit." How much stock would you put in that? It's like Malik Muhammad saying ND "isn't eliminated" but hasn't made any progress in setting up a visit.

I won't worry until ISD does. They're typically the most guarded/conservative of the sites, & if you listened to the last segment of their podcast from this week it'll put a lot of the FUD reports in context.

If he wants a ceremony to be full of excitement and people tuning in, he’s not going to schedule it right after visiting ND and tip his hand. He’s going to talk about more visits, maybe switch some up and take one or two to pull in the eyeballs. I trust the beat here that they feel confident. Let the kid have his moment and all of this results in an even bigger impact when we land him.

Only thing that worries me, TBH, is that report about visiting A&M.

Anyone want to compile a full list of players Tommy Boy was "confident" with at various point in the 2022 cycle?

I don’t know his track record, I only share because the negative reaction to his info (which seemed rushed tbh so he could be first) is a bit overblown considering his personal feelings on the recruitment.

Are we really panicking because the kid, who was t expected to commit to ND on this visit didn't commit on this visit?

Yeah if he is visiting TAM we should get CV to visit. Did Rees already burn that bridge? I don’t care which of those 2 they land.

Feel like that used to be Loy's M O a few years ago, but he's been pretty good the last couple of cycles and doesn't just shotgun CB's or put out confidence on guys unless he has some info.

The last person I thought Tom was naive to was Sonny Styles. He wasn’t really naive to Amorion Walker as we got closer to the end, he just regurgitated the ND staffs stance over and over that they aren’t worried. Singleton literally committed per all inside reporting

What's their remaining cap space for the 2023 recruiting class?
I'm not sure they even have a cap. It's probably whatever jimbo tells the boosters he needs.

Sidebar: is there a better named coach, especially in the days of NIL, than "jimbo"- a guy who uses improper English and grammar, sounds like the love child of Bobby Bowden and Gomer Pyle, and coaches in College Station a texas a&m?

Does his commitment date, actually, matter "that" much? Yesterday vs June, anyway (NSD, ok that'd be a minute...)

If he would have committed yesterday, he'd still be courted by other schools. You could try and leverage some skill players, maybe, but a lot of those guys are committing for awhile it seems. Especially Carnell. Rodney just finished basketball. Bunch of olinemen just finished wrestling. Braylon is probably already a ninja etc.

i would say yes. the earlier your 5 star qb commits the more time you have with them to recruit other players, devote time to the next class.

The longer he waits the fewer quality fall back options there are as well.

You arent wrong that they will still be courted, but courted and visiting are vastly different imo. A guy trying to hit your girl up in the DMs is a lot different than her seeing what the inside of his house is like.

I disagree with all of that.
Even if he commits, there's still fewer "fall back options" after a decommit.
You certainly don't have more time to recruit other players, you're going to be recruiting and pouring everything into Dante until ESD.

I think the "ideal" situation is obviously the earlier the better (and stays committed). But I really don't think it's that big of a deal and people are panicking because he's not pulling a Peyton Bowen and "committing" early, while not ready.

i guess i didnt realize we were taking an eventual decommit into consideration.

If i had to put any level of order to situations.

1. QB Commits very early >>>>>>>2. QB Commits during season>>>>>>>>3. QB Commits NSD>>>>>>>>>>>5. QB Commits early to other school leaving us time to fill>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>6. QB leaves us hanging around at any point for 2 or 3 and we have little to no time to fill>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>7. QB commits at any point and then decommits at any point

However you say one situation is ideal then it defacto matters to some extent or there would be no ideal scenario.

Think there are 3 possible routes to concern:

A) He’s straight misleading the staff. Possible given last cycle but unlikely IMO on Dante.

B) He’s going to take a visit he doesn’t expect to be able to change his mind then it does. Probably where it’d place my concern.

C) He has some hold up he can’t get over about ND. NIL would be here.

  1. Dante cancels his visit to OSU to attend Michigan's spring game instead.
  2. Darth Harbaugh convinces him to join McGregor and Walker as his next Sith apprentice.
  3. Dante commits to ND.
  4. Dante strings us along for as long as possible before, in a historic heel turn, he flips to Michigan at the 11th hour.

That Walker kid's stunt last cycle has really jaded the ever living hell out of some of you.

He kind of comes across to me as a recruiting exception and not the rule. Either way, let's get over it and move on.

oooorrrrr hes already committed and building up drama for the commitment. Loy says hes more confident than even before

From Loy's follow up comments/posts, it seems like the Moore camp has given every indication that he's coming to ND. I don't know if you want to call that a silent commitment or extreme reassurance that it will eventually happen but that is the sense I get. Loy seems very measured in his posts and reassured in his confidence. You can take that FWIW because his confidence usually comes from the staff/prospects confidence, and we know that can be fleeting at times. If I was a betting man, I'd probably place odds on this as brand building, suspense building for an announcement, etc. Or at least how it's being billed to the staff. The problem though is in that process it can lead somewhere, even if it's not intended too.

And so, I come out on this the same on this as I did 1-2 months ago. It's unnecessary risk. And, when I say that it's because I don't view there as a gap of any sort between Vizzina and Moore. If the staff feels that Moore is a significantly better player than Vizzina, maybe that is how they get to this decision. Again, since I do not, I'd get Vizzina on campus asap and make this a race for one spot. Though that doesn't seem even remotely likely at this time.

and this is why i really do want to try and wait another week/two weeks to see if the visits occur and any reports after. Too many possibilities still.

I would hope mr silent CB doesnt start waffling now. I certainly wouldnt expect the staff or Loy to feel any different post visit than they did pre, and i certainly hope its all well placed confidence.

With that said it moves me back to your second paragraph which i somewhat mentioned above. I think we should have let Vizzina come on campus when he was scheduled. Is it the staff views Moore as significantly better than Vizzina or did something happen with ND/Moore as that visit approached.

from the outside it appears we still can get caught with our pants down. To clay devils advocate to the plausible, "visit other schools in order to build drama for a commitment", nothing builds more drama than the appears to be favorite still recruiting other QBs. I dont see why one party could make a promise and keep visiting (if he does) but the other couldnt, especially, if theres a clear line of communication on who gets precedence.
