We finally have a coach who is busting his A** instead of one golfing 24/7
Maybe that was the lure of LSU for BK. LSU recruits itself in Louisiana with the LSU culture there. One doesnt have to do a lot more than send the offer letter and family/community pressure piles on. Guess this allows even more green time for BK

Yeah with DL/DT you should take 3-4 guys every year no matter what and let it sort itself out can never have enough depth.

Goes from 1-10. 10 being the highest confidence level.

6 is pretty standard for Loy.
I've noticed that Wiltfong almost exclusively uses 6 or 7. Won't throw down a crystal ball unless it's at least a 6. When he's pretty confident, he will bump it to a 7. I'm assuming the reason that he won't usually go above a 7 is because he doesn't want to steal a recruits thunder. Most everyone knows that he's plugged in, and if he were to throw down a 9, people would think game over.

I agree with this, however I think he'll cost LSU some in-state recruits because coaches like Saban and Kirby will put more effort into recruiting some kids. Not to mention A&M throwing around all that "NIL" money.

So glad they didn’t go the “Traore or Moore” route. The answer should always be “both”
Especially with how Traore looked on campus last week. I don’t think these two are playing the same position if they were both on campus today. Getting both would be incredible.

Kelly leaves ND and tells everyone recruiting is:

Meanwhile, Freeman assembles his crew and be like:

We're now past the 50% mark of signing our greatest class in the modern era and everyone's like:

And Kelly after signing day will be like:

And we'll all be like:

Freeman still has to win games, that’s the only thing that matters.
I will take 9th ranked recruiting classes & 11 win seasons on average over 4th ranked classes & 9 win seasons.
I don’t want to be what USC & FSU has been the last 5 years.

IN 2-3 years the front 7 is going to be nasty especially with TYSON FORD getting reps as a Freshman and the freshman linebakers are nasty.

Gee, thanks for the clarification. I was just hoping we'd win the gold medal in talent. Who on this board wouldn't take the deal you just put out there? FFS.

I'd rather buy less lottery tickets and win more than buy thousands and win less.

The whole idea that circulates around the ND fanbase is that we must find a way to reach parity or near parity in talent acquisition in order to truly compete with the Big 4 programs. We've maxed out our current talent level in terms of wins so we either raise the talent level and have a chance to win more or we don't.

The only choice is to raise the talent level and Freeman is doing that. The schedule gets harder this year but we have a chance to reach 10+ wins again. Maybe we'll something truly magical.

Yep. Gotta see the product on the field. Love what he's done up to this point, though. Recruiting is critical and he's absolutely crushing it.

Of course. Though I'd note Florida State hasn't had a top ten recruiting class since 2017. They just suck all around lately.
It doesn't need to be either/or here.

Agreed you need to see the product on the field. However, you can definitely see that better recruiting means better football teams. Go look at the BCR for the last few years. Here, bolded team won the thing:

2021 Playoff Teams:
Bama - 84%
UM - 58%
UGA - 80%
CIncy - not ranked
ND - 55%

2020 Playoff Teams:
Bama - 83%
Clemson - 63%
OSU - 80%
ND - 56%

2019 Playoff Teams:
LSU: 64%
OSU: 81%
Clemson: 60%
OK: 60%
ND: 54%

Bama, OSU, and UGA always seem to be over 75% and are always viewed as powerhouses, even if they don't make it in the final four.

That was garbage from the recruiting site parasites.

I think they are fed disinformation and can't tell the difference.

Were I the coach, I would have determined that there is no upside, none NADA in leaking real information to these chowderheads. After all, this is Nd Football, not the Supreme court..................

Good thing those aren't our only two options.

USC recruiting class ranking v. FEI over the last 5 years:
2016 - 10th v. 73rd
2017 - 4th v. 27th
2018 - 4th v. 62nd
2019 - 20th v. 30th
2020 - 63rd v. 33rd
2021 - 7th v. 73rd
Unless Freeman is going to be dropping games where we're heavily favored due to talent differential alone, there's no reason to think upgrading our roster has to come at the cost of consistency. As a first year HC, he'll surely have a lower floor than Kelly (at least at first), but this was a necessary step to compete for national titles. Going with a safe hire like Fickell would have locked us into another 5-10 years of Kelly's high-floor mediocrity., which we really can't afford given the changes coming down the pike.

Sorry if it hurts your delicate self, but I really, really, really don’t care about all the off-season champs crap if ND doesn’t win the actual games.
Charlie Weis was a great recruiter too. Couldn’t coach.

Also, the American version of the Office is the most overrated show of all time & a complete ripoff of the original version. I watched the original one live when I was in the military and it was phenomenal. The American version was just a dumbed down version for people with short attention spans.

Your hard-on for preemptively discrediting Freeman is annoying.

Your take on the American version of the Office is ban-worthy. Even if it's not as good in the eyes of English-version hipsters like yourself... it's still a comedic ensemble masterpiece.

We're sitting on the #1 recruiting class--easily the best ND has put together since Cerrato's heyday--and are finally starting to recruit at the level necessary to compete for titles. And yet you're here, wringing your hands in a public forum, implicitly asking for reassurance over your anxiety that "Gee, maybe Freeman isn't ready to be a HC, and we're about to take a big step back in consistency..." But sure, I'm the delicate one.
Charlie Weis was a great recruiter too. Couldn’t coach.
He was a great OC and could develop QBs and WRs with the best of them. But he wasn't good at hiring competent assistants, or at managing them properly, because his only prior experience came from the NFL. Take a look at his assistant coaches between '05 and '09. Do you think that's remotely comparable to the talent Freeman has surrounded himself with?

You got me, dude. My use of a common reaction .gif was an implicit endorsement of The Office as the greatest sitcom of all time, and I was completely unprepared for you to reveal your refined cultural sensibilities.

I suppose the Spirit of Koon™ must always settle on someone here, but it's hilarious to me how you guys all have the same type: macho, fragile ego, associating your sense of masculinity with NDFB to an unhealthy degree, constantly making pessimistic low-effort posts as a transparent way of dealing with that anxiety, and then lashing out when people point out how obnoxious that is: "Sorry for actually caring about NDFB; I guess you Pollyannas are all OK with mediocrity now, etc."

You're a caricature.

What exactly could Freeman do right now to win games? Could he........recruit like hell to improve his roster....to set up success in the future?

This is like arguing that a new McLaren isn't as good as the Honda civic because it hasn't done the miles that the civic has done. When historically we know a McLaren will likely perform quite well because of the parts it has.
