Donovan looks bigger then Kurt. Assuming he has the same heart, kid is going up be a good player for us.

The more I think about this, the more analyses of Howard Cross I read, the more I am convinced that Jamie Ueyama was right:

the analog for Donovan Hinish is more Howard Cross than Kurt Hinish.

By the way, if someone tasked me with starting a Notre Dame FOOTBALL website, the first employee I would engage in Jamie Ueyama.

He doesn't have baggage, and his analytical skills cut like a knife. He sees things accurately.

Am bumping because I think Donovan was on the bottom for too long.

WYSIWYG

lil' brothers are tricky (cf the Browner family) but it is likely that Donovan will follow in Kurt's path.

But somewhat differently.

Nuttin' in '22, lift weights, eat donuts, buried on the scout team
'23? probably still on the scout team with garbage time against Central Michigan and Duke
'24-starts getting minutes
'25-'26 in the two deep, as effective as Kurt has been

A good scholarship. Elston knows what he is doing.

Jamie Uyeyama's comparison for Donovan this whole time has been Cross, not Hinish the Elder. We've seen how effective Cross can be this year.

Edit: Dublin already posted in the Practice thread, still will keep it up here for posterity.

Good to hear! I know he plays bigger than he is but he did get pushed around some last year so it’s awesome to hear his improvement.

Without Mills and our middle got pushed around by Penn state and demolished by Ohio state. He’s good for a rotation but as a starter that is not a top 25 front line. Dawson Rubio and Onye need to stay healthy.

He's got another few months in our S&C, give him the benefit of the doubt

Hinish is small but plays with good quickness. Probably why he loops to the outside on pass rushing situations. Although there were times he got pressure, there were times where he was pushed out wide as well. Like previously stated, against good OL or playoff teams he'll probably struggle holding up at the point of attack unless he stays low and explodes off the snap (which he's definitely capable of). I do think his best assets are for a guy who plays 20/25 snaps a game.

Week 1: 16 Rush Snaps - 17 Pass Snaps
Week 3: 11 and 23
Week 4: 7 and 23
Week 6: 4 and 21

They’re definitely trying to manage his usage

and he turned in 7 pressures according to PFF today. He’s tied for the team lead in pressures.

At least they are learning.

This continued again. Officially not a coincidence, but a choice:

5 snaps against the run, 23 against the pass. Only 16 snaps against the run in 3 games.
