May seem a bit of a crazy take right now but I think with his athletic profile, he will be a top 10 pick in the 2026 NFL draft

His play yesterday caught my eye, because earlier in the year there was a game where he was letting the DE beat him on pass pro.

He was great yesterday.

Not far off, but can he get big enough and maintain that athleticism? Size is required to be a top 10 pick.
He still physically looks like a blocking tight end. Wagner though has been very solid this year. Not sure if he's capable of adding weight or not, but he has really stepped up and solidified the right side of the line.

Wagner's been a pleasant surprise to me that he can hold up strength-wise. His foot speed seems good. I hope that I'm wrong, but he really doesn't look to have the frame to beef up to NFL OLine size. If not, he might "just" be a really good college tackle, but not a pro tackle. For us, that's still just fine and hooray, but, yes, I hope that our warrior has an NFL career.

As an off-center aside: Alan Page was a great Defensive tackle (HOF type) who was a destroyer on Ara's beat-out-Bubba for the NCAA 1966 championship team. (We followed that with a clinching 51-0 thrashing of USC, by the way.) When Page went to the Vikings, he was still playing like an All-Star, but they questioned his smallish weight. One season he tried to beef up. Showed up at just at 300 and looked like an overstuffed sausage. I think it was his worst NFL year. The point is: there are guys, no matter how good, just can't play at too much unnatural overweight. Wagner could be that kind of guy.

He's not horribly far off from Tyron Smith honestly. He's NFL caliber but might go later due to his size. He's great though.

I think his foot speed is his greatest strength. I have no expertise on OL play. But seems like his game and his success comes from beating people to the spot or crazy fast recovery.

Do you think ND could have him pull like the Lions have Sewell pull?

Can't answer. Water disaster at my retirement community ousted me to a living quarters with no normal television. Haven't watched football since late October. My first impressions were that ND DID pull the right tackle sometimes on the "duo" down blocks on the left side ... but you'll have to ask someone who watches OLine play during the games.

From what little I get to watch him. He's been pretty solid in pass pro throughout the year. Run game he is what he is. He's not very big and doesn't get push. However he does do well being an athlete and positioning himself to get between the defender and the ball carrier when blocking zone whether it be inside or outside zone. I don't think he'll ever be a road grader but hopefully he'll continue to get stronger and better.

I hope that gets sorted out soon.

Thanks for the answer. I don't look at who is pulling most of the time and with the amount of TEs coming across to block, I only notice the result of the block.

Understood. Last year and early this year the demonstrative gasher block would be by the TE, but closer observation would show the cave-ins by the left side blockers with one right side puller "getting in someone's way." (which is a just fine "block.")
