Of course EVERYONE does agree with this statement as to normal game play. Again, the question is who would give us a better chance when we are down 14 in the 4th quarter. If there is not a ton of time left on the clock that requires us to throw 90% of the time, I don't believe the answer is clear cut.

I believe there are scenarios where Angeli could be the better option. Obviously how well we are protecting the QB would be a factor. How well has Leonard been throwing the ball up to that point is another factor. How many people is the D dropping into coverage.

I'm guessing that most of the time the answer is probably sticking with Leonard. But there would be scenarios where the answer could be Angeli.
If we had a better receiving core, I would agree on Angeli.
I believe Riley moves this offense better than Angeli can, given the way it is currently configured.

Tie ball game...yes. ND down two scores in the 4th? Defense pinning their ears back and not worried about the run game? Give the ball to the kid who can throw it.

Leonard has literally lead this team to a 13 game win streak and bowl wins in the sugar and orange bowls against back to back top 5 teams.
RL is a great leader, no question. But let's be honest here: his legs (not arm), this defense, O line and run game got ND to the natty. His arm is as shaky as his decision making throwing the ball.

If ND is down two scores in the 4th, hell or even 3rd, and RL is at QB...OSU is smiling ear to ear.

and yet we won. Im not sure why the hypotheticals are coming out here.

It's very important that we all recognize that Angeli is arguably better in a situation where Leonard has thrown multiple picks, it's in the 4th with 4 minutes left, we are down two possessions, the moon is in a waxing crescent, Mitch Jeter has left for hotdogs and dissappeared, and Freeman has everyone wearing black uniforms.

I love when you talk dirty

I like the thought of “rewatch it” as in the entire Sugar Bowl and half the Orange Bowl. Granger must have just missed how we won the games. A rewatch will do it

Did you not watch either game @GrangerIrish24?

Better not bench him (of course there's no universe where that happens anyway.) Riley Leonard is in some ways the weirdest QB I've ever watched who is unquestionably successful. Most of the time (unless one of our backs suddenly is standing in the end zone having run "98 yards",) I have no particularly positive feelings about how he's going to pull off what he then does. I'm just attributing it to "Magic" and throwing up my hands and saying, well, that's just how this is --- the guy's magic.

I have horrifying thoughts of Angeli leaping for the first down. They would have caught him mid air and ran him into the endzone for a touchdown.

You have 12 offensive players to defend against when RL is on the field between his running ability and being able to throw the ball. Playing against the quarterback like that you have to always have a spy on him. SA doesn’t give that option.

Because this OSU offense is by far the best ND has seen this year, defenses are loading the box to stop the ND run because they don't fear RL throwing, and the whole country is wondering how ND is gonna put up enough points to cover the spread.

And ND can't rely on +2 turnover margin and a special teams touchdown every game.

Please go back to my original post. If ND is down 2 scores in the 4th, run game is tossed out the window.

- I have no clue what Riley has to do with the OSU offense. At least not that I’m aware of. I do drink a lot.
- OSU doesn’t need to load the box. They have the athletes to match up. It will be more of a problem for Angeli because their secondary will shut down our mediocre receiving crew. Then what.
- You are also putting a lot of stock in a guy whose numbers are based on playing garbage time.
- We lost the turnover battle to PSU and won.
-I was under the impression we wanted ND to win, not just cover the spread.

Now I get why the exact hypothetical is ND down 14 in the 4Q, Leppy here wants to know specifically if we backdoor cover

This is ridiculous.
If we're down 14 and bring in Angeli, Ohio State will man up our WRs and blitz the hell out of him. Good luck with that. Leonard may not be as decisive a thrower as Angeli but he has proven remarkably hard to sack, has legs that open up the rest of the offense, and has shown the ability to throw deep when needed.
Unless Leonard is hurt or completely rattled, I don't see a scenario where you bench him for Steve if the game is at all within reach.

Enjoy the laughs today. You won't be making jokes if ND has 15 yards rushing at half (PSU) or 98 total yards passing (Georgia).

Anytime you can take one of your most dynamic offensive players off the field, you just have to do it. Especially if he’s your quarterback who has led you to the NC game.

I will still be making jokes. It helps me get through life.
OSU is a great team. We will have problems no matter who is in. I’m sorry to keep breaking this to you though, we will have less problems with Riley though.

Not sure why we have to talk in circles here, but my original post said if ND was down 2 touchdowns in the 4th Angeli should at least get a thought.

I think we’ve established your POV there. Hope your bet covers

OK, I can get snarky and smart ass too.

"I really hate it when the offense can only run the football, and I don't have to even plan for a passing threat." ---- said no DC ever
