Realistically, QB #4 going forward will probably have to be an academic oriented GT or a PWO.

So let's say MF doesn't bring a transfer in, Angeli wins the starting job and Minchey doesn't see a path to starting in the next couple of years and decides to transfer. We'd then have Angeli and Carr as our only 2 scholarship QBs and if one gets hurt ND is in a very tight spot for the rest of the season.

Or, if you prefer, let's say no transfer QB, Minchey wins the job, and Angeli definitely transfers because he got passed up by an underclassman. You're then left with just Minchey and Carr to start the season.

You prefer either of those 2 scenarios over bringing in a GT and giving ND the best shot at having at least 3 scholarship QBs for the '24 season?

Sure man what if we get a GT who promptly gets hurt. Angeli balls, minchey transfers were at 2 then too. What iff car decides he doesn't want to play for a school with a bunch of unproven wrs, then Leonard chases the bag and we only have Angeli and minchey.

Want to keep going?

None of this changes from my point that the goal to be at 4 is kinda pointless when all options to get to four likely lead to not being at 4.

Wow! Tommy offered a 5 star qb that loved Notre dame so much even know his grandpa is a Michigan icon.

The MAC was blessed that year from Tommy boy not swooping in and robbing them for a change.

The goal isn't to be at 4. I never tried to make that point. The hope is to be at 4 but that's not the goal. The goal is to give yourself the best chance to have at least 3. QBs transfer frequently. It's going to happen and that was true before the transfer portal.

The scenarios I gave you are likely scenarios or at least fall in the category of strong possibility. You threw out less likely scenarios. Could any of your scenarios happen? Sure, but a good coach doesn't just say, "Screw it, nothing is guaranteed so I'm just going to roll the dice and stick with what I have." A good coach makes a calculation based on what's most likely to happen and then does what's best for the team. Having a QB room with only 3 scholarship QBs heading into spring, all of whom have no starting experience, and accepting the strong possibility either Minchey or Angeli will transfer out depending on who wins the starting job (or both if Carr wins the job), is a great way to set yourself up for disaster.

If we had a deeper QB room already or at least a stud QB who is definitely ready to take over the team I'd agree with you, but I don't think we have either so MF would be negligent if he didn't pursue another GT QB.

Don't bring facts to a fight with Irishman77, you're beating a man with no arms. Aside from bringing in Hartman, Minchey, and Carr in the span of a few months, Rees turned Milroe into a Heisman contender this year and he's coaching in the SEC Championship tomorrow with the opportunity to backdoor into the playoff if they win. They'll leapfrog OSU with a win, Oregon just lost, it would all depend on where Georgia would fall and what FSU's backup does against Louisville.

Taking Riley is a risk to me especially with his injury. Plus is Riley 100% coming to ND??

Depending on position, players wise ND needs to believe in their players in house before it starts affecting recruiting.

With our schedule next year, Angeli should be able to handle.

Not only did he offer him, he then recruited him, it’s not like he offered him & stopped.
The point was he offered before MF had any say.
Then Tommy recruited him & won him over the following year.

I lived in Arizona, so no thanks.

And Tommy didn’t offer Carr & recruit him because of Freeman.
Did you even read the conversation or just jump in?
The poster said Timmy only went after MAC level QBs, and Freeman made him go after P5 QB’s, which is false.
Another poster said that Timmy offered & recruited Carr before Freeman had any say, which is fact.

So yes, I do believe Tommy would offer & recruit Carr without Freeman having any say because IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
