meh. Sorry, but I don’t think he should ever see the field for Notre Dame. We cannot go into 2024 with him as projected starter. Would love to be wrong

I would be surprised if he’s the starter in 24

I want you to be right, meaning he’s not projected starter in 2024. If he is, that’s not good

Everyone needs to give Angeli a fair shake. Kid is a legit 4 star with great size and throws a nice ball. He could easily start in '24. Sitting behind Hartman this year is going to be huge for Angeli and Minchey.
Agreed! Plus, he's not concerned about tucking the ball and running when he deems it necessary. A year of Hartman tutoring and Minchey on-hand for competition for next year, I think there is definitely potential for him!

Wow. Should never see the field? Pretty bold statement. Some guys do get better throughout their careers.

People who say he should never see the field I'm Laughing at. He's higher rated than Ian book who is our winningest QB at ND?

Dude has an offer list of Ohio State, LSU, Penn State, Sparty, Oregon, scUM, VT, etc. and we're out here saying he shouldn't ever see the field lol.

We've reached peak offseason takes pretty early.

Once the guys get on campus and start becoming part of the team, its safe to put the recruiting 'stars' away. The coaches seem to like him and in the limited time we've seen him he has played quite well. If he plays under center im sure the whole team will be behind him and so should the fans. We can win with Steve.

Shouldn't see the field?
People who say that should learn our history.

He's destined to start 3-4 years chasing all the other out.
I can already see it. With Diggs gone we lose a good pass protection guy. Hartman gets hit on the blindside and goes down for the year. Angeli steps up and benefits, younger guys can't unseat him in the coming years.

Yup. He'll be just good enough to "trust" not to make big mistakes.

One thing ND couldn’t do in recent years was put bad teams away early enough to give key backups competitive snaps. That needs to happen this season more than ever w/ Angeli being one injury away from having the entire season on his shoulders. ND opens w/ 3 teams they should handle (but we’ve seen how that played out last season) before OSU. Would love to see them put all three away by halftime to give Angeli (or Minchey) some key reps but at least put one of them away early.

Buchner really had a chance to learn a lot from Hartman, his loss and I think it is Angeli's gain. In my opinion Angeli looked better than Buchner last week at the B&G game. You can argue who was on their team, but Buchner has more experience than Angeli at ND. I hope Angeli shocks the hell out of this message board.

If I was Angeli, I would be telling FUND to pay up haha
With the portal now, ND needs to start an endowment for the backup QB position. Some kid who is realistic enough to know he isn't going to the league, but can be a solid backup for 4 years. Maybe if Tommy wants to give back to his alma mater he could sponsor the position.
Having said that, Drew Pyne was supposed to be that guy... and even he didn't stick around

It would certainly shock me if Steve ever became a starting QB at Notre Dame - he’ll be the least talented QB on the roster every season he’s here - but there’s something to be said for a backup who you don’t have to worry about transferring.

I wonder if Pyne would’ve stayed if Buchner had jumped first. I suspect he would have.
Either way, on to Angeli, and Minchey.

People said the same in the first pages of the Rees and Book recruiting threads.

They did! And we shouldn’t be aspiring to have Rees and Book as our starting QBs!

Unless we plan to surround them with the talent Georgia surrounded Stetson Bennett with, then ND can’t win at the highest level with that like of QB. You can rack up plenty of 9-10-win seasons with losses in the really important games because your QB wasn’t good enough, though.

I'm just sayin'...it shouldn't really shock you when Angeli ends up as the starter at some point lol.

Well the kid is big and has been very pro-ND. When I saw this bump to the top of the discussion topics...I was like No Fucking Way is this kid also in the portal.

At this point, we play with what we got and be happy for them. The kid has been knocked since he was committed. That he was a soft pickup when supposedly Drew Allar was interested. Whatever.

ND is different and has its challenges. But the kids that stick with the program should be cheered on. Perhaps we trip up OSU or USC and beat Clemson....and have a shot at the playoffs.... try to be positive I guess.
