Sampson and the II guys said it was more than that. They stated that he was punting poorly in practice - no hang time, poor net avg. McPherson also complained that he wasn't getting an opportunity to be both punter and kickoff specialist, but Sampson said he was so inconsistent at punting he was in danger of losing that job anyway so both parties were likely happy that he decided to leave.
