What about Colzie? We have four veterans and four talented freshmen at WR — light years ahead of this time last year and with the best QB room ND has had in my life. While the departures are not ideal, our WR is in pretty good shape.
Not experienced veterans

I personally am not overly high on colzie, hope he proves me wrong.

Healthy is the key word for our WR's this year. Colzie and Merriweather on each end, Tyree as the slot, Thomas played all over last year, and our 3 freshman Rico/Greathouse/James are setting themselves up for a reserve role. Mayer will be unreplaceable but we have depth at TE with Mitchell, Staes, Raridon, and Baumann if healthy that will need to make plays when called on. Maybe Payne as a back up to Tyree, Kaleb Smith adds depth when he enrolls.

ND has a QB this year, an upgrade and better one than last year.

Why do people think a WR transfer will guarantee a difference, play the kids you have.

Name the year (years).
There’s really no point. You obviously think way higher of Hartman than I do. I’d take a bunch of previous ND starting QBs over him. TB12 has been injury prone and turns the ball over way too much and Minchey is a Freshman.

I'm curious which previous ND starting QBs in this century - other than Clausen and Brady Quinn - you would take over Hartman. Based on their respective bodies of work.

Kizer, Book, Rees and Coan were all fine in their ways but not clearly better than him. Golson and Wimbush and briefly Zaire maybe flashed a higher ceiling but there's reasons they ended their careers elsewhere.

I don't know where this year's QB room stands respective to past ones, but I do feel for the first time in a long time like we've built up a pipeline of credible options from Hartman to Buchner to Minchey to Carr. Surely they won't all pan out, but one can look forward with more confidence than we had, say, this time last year.

You know what you have by now for the most part, you know if you need some help or depth. I wouldn’t take a flyer on a transfer, I would want a pretty much sure thing.

Love can come in and play some WR too or a flex RB/WR he’s too good too keep off the field
I agree he’s really good,
But difficult to come in the fall and play a position you haven’t played a ton in. I think love fights for 3rd back snaps vs Payne or if our main two backs get injured. I worry about diggs weight, conditioning, etc with his health issues. I thought he played a little over weight in 2022, so did estime, but estime by all accounts is in much better shape now.

If Lorenzo transfers to osu, Sonny should transfer to ND, being he's 2nd string safety there currently. 😂 He'd make a heck of a rover for the blue and gold.

Could be that too.

The ironic parts is that if this had happened LAST off season, when we all suspected [worried] it might, it would have been an ND-wide fandom meltdown of epic proportions. Would have been viewed is one of the biggest transfer portal losses since Aaron Lynch, maybe even bigger than that, because of the questions at the WR position.

But even with some remaining questions presently and a lack of overall experience... the season he had last year really softened the blow. Funny how things go sometimes.
Wondering what the cause of his regression was. Everyone quick to blame Del but it happened under Stuckey.
I don’t think the move to DB is necessarily a smart one. LS might have to spend five years in college to hit his potential

Especially when he looked really good vs ok state. Recruiting issues definitely under del, but we still always had good wr play. We had terrible wr play last year.

We also had terrible QB play and an OL that early in the season struggled to give the passing game time to function. I don't know, and I'm not sure how much of anything to put on Stuckey as a developer.

Regardless, I expect a lot of our WRs this year, with a much better QB and what I gather will be a simpler and more wide open offense. If Styles got passed by the younger guys, OK, that doesn't seem like a bad thing. The one thing I don't get is if he wanted to play defense why we didn't try him at safety, ideally going into spring ball. He'd be a lot more likely to see the field there than at corner.

This doesn't make sense unless we just "processed" him out.
Maybe the staff felt he wasn't good enough at receiver or db and this was their way of forcing him to leave?
I kind of hope that's the case because if he's good enough to start at db at OSU, they should've done everything to convince him to stay especially at safety.

Has to be a weird thing to hit the portal the day before the biggest campus event of the spring.

Had to have been awful lonely in the dining hall today…

Should’ve moved to CB long ago. Needs a complete change of scenery.

I’ve always wondered when this kind of stuff happens, how much of an advantage does OSU have because he has the whole playbook.

Guess that gives a little insight on how his teammates felt about the suck nut manchurian candidate hiding in our wide receiver room

Buchner to Alabama made some sense. Rees recruited him and coached him, which gives him a good shot of earning the starting gig at Bama.

This doesn't make a lot of sense. I get Styles has a brother there and his dad loves them, but let's be realistic here. If he wasn't going to contribute to ND's secondary, what makes anyone think he's going to contribute to Ohio State's? The common idea is that Styles would redshirt and have 2 years, but let's be real. Is Ohio State waiting a year for him to fall into a starting gig? I think he may be overselling himself a bit.
