I was hoping he’d be dropping interceptions as a CB for us. Good luck, I hope it works out for him wherever he ends up. Gives me hope about our young WRs though.

Hope you criticize the guys who transfer to ND looking for PT
Were still in spring ball and he had plenty of playing time last year. He has played his way out of it with brutal performance and now seems to be running for a “fresh start” instead of dealing with the mess he made and getting back on the field. With this mentality it explains why he just fell apart last year when things were tough. Just calling it what it is.

Watch him transfer to OSU with his brother, play in only 4 games (including against ND) to preserve his Redshirt & get used to playing CB again, then play 2 full years in ‘24 & ‘25 as a starting CB & leave an AA…

The key to being a successful shot caller is selecting one vague, easily attainable data point and coming back for a victory lap.

Your multi-layered, highly specific hodgepodge of hot messery has as much chance of hitting as finding next week's winning Powerball ticket under a Woolly Mammoth carcass frozen 20 feet below surface while digging for lithium outside of Yakutsk Siberia with Dylan Mulvaney in matching Speedo's.

Dealing with the mess he made, little dramatic but okay lol. He wanted to transfer in the winter but stuck around to see if he could win his job back, which is what you wanted him to do. He was unsuccessful and has two years of eligibility left. He doesn't want to spend another one here in a minimal role. Makes plenty of sense. But you know just that whole generation sucks or something.

It’s clear that he doesn’t think he can make it as an NFL WR and that’s the #1 thing precipitating this move. Probably wants to find the easiest path towards development at DB to get his best shot at the pros.

ND is now an injury or two away from being totally fucked at WR. Freshman are very, very rarely ready to play full time starter minutes consistently at the position. So you basically have to bank on Thomas and Merriweather to both turn the corner AND stay healthy.

No styles and Kaleb smith … that’s a big blow even if they weren’t the most talented ones

Tobias tyree and Thomas have to be good

Yep. I think the WR room is going to be good next season but bad this season.

Kind of a coward move ngl. Guy has a bad spring and immediately enters the portal.
Well, coming off a bad 2022, he's seeing his opportunity at ND pass him by.

He was going to see less time at receiver with the frosh emerging and Tyree converted to receiver full-time. That doesn't even mention guys like Colzie, Merriweather and Thomas, who already were ahead of him.

Then at corner, you have Morrison and Hart, along with a good chunk of athleticism behind them with guys like Mickey and Gray.

Personally, if I were him, I'd have waited to get my degree. If not, I'd seriously consider somewhere like Northwestern or Vanderbilt. Get a real shot of starting at corner and finish up a top-end degree. Better than going to Ohio State, where your starting chances are slim and you are taking a downgrade in terms of a degree.

I think they will be fine. They could still add a depth piece through the portal. But, it seems like they are all for giving the younger guys a real shot at meaningful snaps this fall. Styles was moved to DB due in part to what Greathouse, Flores & James have all shown in spring practice some of whom where outplaying Kaleb Smith. To add, there is also a handful of TEs that look poised to be receiving threats, and mobility at quarterback.

NDs offense is still predicated on their ability to run the football.

does Styles SR think programs are gonna be offering his son starting berths? I can't imagine many high powered P5 teams would make that promise.
I'm sure plenty will make the promise. I just doubt any will keep the promise if they get the same Styles we got last season.

Could be that too.

The ironic parts is that if this had happened LAST off season, when we all suspected [worried] it might, it would have been an ND-wide fandom meltdown of epic proportions. Would have been viewed is one of the biggest transfer portal losses since Aaron Lynch, maybe even bigger than that, because of the questions at the WR position.

But even with some remaining questions presently and a lack of overall experience... the season he had last year really softened the blow. Funny how things go sometimes.
True. Timing does impact perception. If guys like Claypool and Boykin would have transferred after their Sophomore years many would have said it was no big deal because they hadn’t done anything.

He exceeds his freshman year with a really good QB, has a sophomore slump with a case of the dropsies (and not a very good QB), and drops on the depth chart/changes positions because Rico, Greathouse, and James are outplaying him this spring.

I think if he would've put in the work he could've gotten back to what he was his freshman year especially with a better QB at WR.

This is more about Lorenzo and if the easy way for him is to transfer OSU guarantees nothing for him.

I’d rather have Staes or Raridon in the lineup than Styles. They have quite a bit to offer. Styles was slow, average height, and had a 50/50 chance at catching the ball. If they want a guy like that, I can find about 20 of them in the South Bend high schools.

What about Colzie? We have four veterans and four talented freshmen at WR — light years ahead of this time last year and with the best QB room ND has had in my life. While the departures are not ideal, our WR is in pretty good shape.

I think Hartman will make it good this year if wr room stays healthy… I worry next year if we’ll have a qb ready, still not sold on Buchner as a consistent passer
