This has a little bit of a Terry Jillary vibe to me. If you remember, Tillary had made a lot more trips to LSU than he ever did to ND. He was also seen sporting LSU gear a lot and most thought he was going to end up a Tiger.

Terry Jillary was my favorite.

Yeah this one's going to be a gut punch. Like someone mentioned earlier, getting tired of seeing Hickey be so confident about these Clemson v. ND battles, but whenever she's this emphatic, she's been right 10/10 times. Everything else is for the clicks imo.

It's starting to feel impossible to beat Clemson in recruiting. Not just for ND.

But I think they are even harder to beat for ND type kids than Bama, UGA, OSU. It's a pretty good school, awesome campus life, beautiful weather, Dabo, ridiculous gameday atmosphere, likelihood of winning championships, etc. It's just a huge draw.

Hopefully Shipley proves us wrong but man it feels like Clemson gets who Clemson wants.

Awesome campus life and beautiful weather is a streeeeeeeeach. It's a small town in South Carolina. It's not bad but it's not great. Being from the area nearby, Clemson has the weirdest cult alumni group. Clemson people don't ever shut up about Clemson for it just being a good regional university. This is even before they rose in football. Just a weird thing that's known by people from the area.

Everything else you listed is just a factor of winning.

One thing nobody mentions is when Shipley decides to sign with Clemson there will be fierce competition. The Clemson 2020 class has 2 running backs signed a 5 star and a 4 star. In the 2021 class they have a 4 star committed. Also if there is no 2020 season that mean all 3 of these running backs will be in the same class. So far Notre Dame just has one 4 star running back signed in the 2020 class and no running backs committed in the 2021 class.

This narrative that we never beat Clemson for recruits is just untrue. In the 19' class alone we signed Lacey (early on was one of their top DT's on the board), Kristofic, Carroll, Correll and Hamilton. All those guys were recruited by Clemson and went on visits, sans Hamilton. But they tried like to heck to get him too. Pretty sure Hickey pulled the same stunt with Lacey at that time. Clemson gets who Clemson wants so Lacey will be a Tiger. Looking at his CB's she was in the last group of analysts to CB Lacey to ND 1 month before his commitment.

This.

Honestly, this is a no brainer. If this kid has a 1/2 a brain cell, he can just look at Bama and their list of 5 star RBs that didnt play or didnt play much until their last year.

Amazing how these kids convince themselves they are different, the chosen one, and wont go down the same exact path others before them went.

You cant compare the education between the schools
You cant compare the play time between the schools

So basically, a shot at a NC with a program that has a good avenue to the pros and being closer > than loads of playing time, a great degree and football success that has a good avenue to the pros?

Doesnt sound complex to me at all

Yeah, I live just south of Asheville in NC. We had a friend that had a boat on Lake Keowee. Outside of Greenville, which is about 45 minutes away, there isn't much there. It also gets hot as balls (perhaps it's because I grew up in Michigan or live in a higher elevation than Clemson).

I moved down here in 2010 and the Clemson fans have always been annoying as hell.

I don't follow Clemson recruiting or know much about their recruiting, but to me a kid would commit right away to Clemson and not wait it out.

Shipley has waited out his recruitment for some reason. We have to hope that he holds out committing before his June visit to ND.

Today's prediction still 50/50.

To visit other schools?

Watching this bright, young man speak makes Notre Dame man jump off the page. He seems like the exact person that comes to Notre Dame. He is well spoken and has a good head on his shoulders. Just seems like he would fit in at ND so much more than Clemson. I mean with everyone on campus. ND just has GREAT people. It seems like that is who Will is too. Clemson probably has some good ones too, but it is not the culture of great people that ND is. Look at all the schools that Will is drawn to. They are way more like ND than Clemson. He has a good head on his shoulders. Thats why I think it will be ND. He realizes that a knee injury could happen on any play. Then where would he rather be? A place where a degree gets you in to anywhere in the country, or an average degree from Clemson? A place where people will love you and care about you even if you blow out your knee? Or a place where they have another 5 star to plug in and forget about you like yesterday's news? Just seems like Will is one of the smart ones that realizes this. We shall see. Either way, I am impressed by the young man and think he would be a great ambassador for ND in the years to come.

1) Nobody believes they’ll be the bottom guy. Was actually talking about Duke’s basketball recruiting class with a coach at UM (6 top 50 guys committed!!!) and they mentioned that all of those guys see themselves as first round draft picks and not as the bottom rated guy in the pack. Also they’ve got friends, parents, mentors, coaches and teachers all gassing them up everyday about how they’ll be amazing. So I can totally see how Shipley might think he’ll step into Clemson and be a starter by year 2 or something like that.

2) their facilities wipe ND’s facilities off the map. That’s appealing to 17-18 yr old kids. That’s also a big selling point when it comes to player development for the pros is that they’ve got the best training, sports medicine, strength and conditioning.

3) Dabo Swinney vs Brian Kelly

4) Kids wanna go be with the other best kids. See Ohio State’s 2021 recruiting class

That’s some negative stuff but I still think ND’s got a great shot lol. But I don’t think it’s a no brainer decision.

If there's any position where a crowded depth chart might not be a deal breaker for a 5 star, it's probably RB. That many less hits to take before moving on to the league

Christian Wilkins was a perfect personality type for ND. And took the Clemson offer and ran with it

It's just really hard to compete with Clemson, Ohio State and Alabama right now.

One of the reasons is that those programs have no integrity. Being able to lie well is probably the most valuable quality in the world these days. I think that's a Louise CK quote.

someone I work with knows Shipley on a personal level

I heard he wants to get on campus to buy an ND letterman jacket. Does that sound like a kid that would spurn ND? The family would never go to campus and spend money on something that the kid will end up not using. All ND.
