I think he silent commits on his visit.
That quote above about wanting to help his class mates recruit others sounds ND'ish to me.
Why even help recruit for Clemson?
And the second quote about wanting to make it the best class is just a youngster being ambitious.

Oh, he's going somewhere that has designs on being the #1 class in 2021. Rats.

This one is low key stressful.

While we're very unlikely to end up with the #1 class overall (for a whole host of reasons), we might end up with the best offensive recruiting class in the nation for 2021. So even if you take Shipley's comment as more than just generic optimism, we've still got a good argument.

Love the Speculation Especially during COVID 19

I love the conversation. So much speculation. We just don’t know what these kids are thinking. Agree it’s hard to battle Clemson if football is the only priority. I think it’s a toss up if we can get him on campus with a number of commitments, obviously including Blake (future POTUS).

Thanks everyone for keeping life a little enjoyable, even as we argue about 16-18 year olds.

If ND could not have gotten him on campus our chances would be slim, but ND getting him on campus after his March visit was cancelled is big.

I really hope i'm wrong, but I have a Keith Marshall feeling here. Likes everything about Notre Dame, but ends up at their "dream school" closer to home.

I don't think Marshall was ever this legitimately interested in ND.

I don't like that out sounds like he's going to commit before a visit, but kudos to the staff for not laying down on this one.

Tommy Ballgame's response to Hickey saying he's going to Clemson.

"Shipley likes Clemson A LOT. He could still land at either school. Distance helps Clemson, but it’s not even close to the only reason he is interested in the Tigers. They have recruited him extremely well, he has a great relationship with the staff, players, and a few commits. He feels at home there. He’s genuinely torn. Last week, Clemson was definitely the team to beat IMO and things have tightened up a lot over the past week with the effort ND has made. This is going to come down to the wire."

I thought that the 247 article said that Will's parents were going to talk to Blake last night. He seems tight with players on the roster.

ND is looking good here and is doing all the right things to get him to ND. ND will have to roll out the red carpet during his visit and I don't see a problem with that.

I would still call this a 50/50 chance for ND.

Normally I'm a very optimistic person and maybe self-isolation has turned me a bit pessimistic. I'm going to be a wet blanket here.

We've consistently heard from TL that ND has gone above and beyond recruiting this young man - which I think is a strong testament to the work of the entire staff. There are a lot of positives here including his relationship with Lance Taylor and the relationships with current ND commits for his class (shout out Blake Fisher).

However, we also heard a few other things: (1) He was going to commit after his official visits were done in March. (2) He was going to visit ND March 21-22 with the big weekend. (3) He was ALSO going to make his official visit to Clemson March 28th before their spring game.

That means Clemson would have had the last shot. Tom's update on TS's virtual official visit was promising but he even admits to AH that Clemson had the lead.

He previously said (post-shutdown) that he wanted to make his decision but decided to hold off for the moment. I think his decision to wait until visiting ND is about a very upstanding young man wanting to do right by the people who invested a lot of time in him and give ND the courtesy of visiting and hearing their pitch...before committing to Clemson.

I hope my outlook is wrong but I think he's a good kid who feels very drawn to staying close to home at Clemson and doesn't want to let down the ND staff because he does appreciate their efforts.

I'm a little confused on the last visit. Clemson having the last shot is one of the reasons you are pessimistic about ND landing Shipley. However, Shipley is giving ND a visit, meaning we have the last shot. Unless there is another visit to Clemson after the ND visit that I'm not aware of (which I may very well not be).

Right. Spoon had said the main reason he felt pessimistic about Shipley to ND was that Clemson was going to get the last visit. Which is not the case now, so what else is making him feel pessimistic about Shipley coming to ND.

Right. Spoon had said the main reason he felt pessimistic about Shipley to ND was that Clemson was going to get the last visit. Which is not the case now, so what else is making him feel pessimistic about Shipley coming to ND.

He had originally planned on making his decision in the pre-isolation time frame after all of his official visits were completed. Even before the cancellation of March 21-22 weekend ND had an uphill battle to climb because he had the more recent unofficial visit to Clemson (January Junior Day) and the last official visit the week after ND's official visit.

After the cancellation of all recruiting visits and the NCAA imposed dead period due to COVID-19 the next piece of news to come out was that WS was about ready to make his decision. Again, I know that LT has put in a lot of work recruiting this young man in NC but Clemson had the more recent visit and has the multitude of other factors already discussed by others (recent national success, recruiting machine, etc). That would seem to favor Clemson if that were the case.

The last 4 weeks or so the updates that have come include CBs on 247 by some guy who covers LSU but then also Wiltfong on 3/12/2020 - right before visits even started. Rivals produced an article on April 3rd saying he was close to committing before the visits were put on hold. I think that favors the last school visited - unofficially or officially - and that was Clemson. Then Loy, after writing his piece on how well the recent virtual visit went, still endorses that Clemson led last week. A week ago Loy also said he still liked WS to ND but was closer to him not committing than being part of the class. After seeing all of that I began to wonder if he was maybe decided on Clemson but wanted to show respect to ND's efforts by at least continuing to visit before making an announcement for the Tigers.

Now, the above is, in my opinion, a reasonable glass half-empty view. The reasonable glass half-full view that I can also endorse is that he is a high academic kid with a strong family support that also values academics. He's got a great relationship with Lance Taylor and ND is throwing the kitchen sink at him. Getting this virtual official visit, talking with professors, talking with current players and commits, having parents talk with families of current players and commits. That's amazing work by ND. He's also hearing daily from Blake Fisher who is the biggest recruiter in a literal and figurative sense for ND right now.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think it's 50.1% Clemson, 49.9% ND. I hope that dynamic changes but I'm ready for it to stay this way, too.

If he does go with Clemson I am obviously not going to hold it against him but at the same time I am going to wish he just went that way from the start so we could put this effort into someone else. Who is the plan B?

Besides the guys who have offers (all of which appear to be going nowhere becuz of Shipley:

Plan B's:

Alton McCaskill
Jordan Jenkins
or
Cam'Ron Valdez (all of TX) are the guys Taylor is following.

I would have been on: LJ Johnson (TX), Jaylen Anderson (OH) & Audric Estime (NJ)

A few Chicagoland guys of note: Mar'kiese Irving, Lewis Bond & Trenton Howard

Lastly: Justin Johnson of Edwardsville, IL (KAR's teammate) and local kid from Portage, MI = Anthony Tyus. He's really grown on me.

Thanks Crus. I did look at the 2021 list you do and saw the next update after Shipley was for Corey Kluber who did not have us in his top 10 but I wonder if we should still be after him. Definitely take him and Shipley.
Also Prophet Brown has us in his top 6.

Sorry, that list hasn't been vetted in a looong time.

Lucky may know the answer to this but I'm not sure where they like Prophet Brown. I thought it was at CB but they may be recruiting him as an ATH. I haven't really dove into him yet for some reason. Prolly should.

Got it. Thanks for explaining a bit more! I tend to view most recruits pessimistically so I don't get my hopes up and have them come crashing down.

I had always been really skeptical about us beating Clemson for Shipley. Seems like the kind of kid we always finish in the "top 2" for but finds a reason to pick a school closer to home. But I heard before the March visit got cancelled that he was an "ND lock" and likely to commit on that visit. I was very surprised to hear this and thought my source was joking, but he was adamant that he wasn't. That spring weekend is always a really big one for ND who tries to front load their recruiting into the spring/summer as much as possible. Losing that sucked, and I don't know how COVID changes things, but hopefully we recapture momentum on that June visit.

A quickly fading shot at a ring and a two hour drive home or McCaffrey's blueprints and snaps.

I'd take the shot at the money.

...and once again,

Who has Dabo recruited & developed as HC that has turned out to be an NFL star? Nobody.
