Hopefully the Church sends him somewhere he can eat (I.E Brazil, Australia, somewhere in the US, etc.). I believe that Badger got called to Ecuador. No disprespect to ecuador, but they arent known for large food production and missionaries coming home gaining weight.
The other thing that would be interesting is if ND, and more importantly Balis, would be willling to give instructions on excercises that would be good for maintaining some athleticism. The rules regarding communicating with friends and family have been lowered and its easier to communicate than even 3 years ago. Balis could touch base weekly/daily if he wanted (depending on the mission. Again, tough to communicate with someone daily down in Equador, but at least then it could be weekly.)
I played baseball after serving a mission in Brazil. I committed to BYU after a year and a half on the mission with 6 months left. BYU then sent me a full plan of what they wanted me to do to maintain my body the best I could. While I didnt have gym equipment, I would run, do bands, push ups, body weight squats, etc. When I came back, I got back into shape within 3 months. I know guys who leave BYU football for theirs. BYU has a whole plan that they want them to follow. We could potentially do the same.
And in keeping in touch even monthly, I believe that it would only heighten his appreciation for the University and staff.
