Not picking on you either but he has NFL legs and size. It's just at his size, he has to have Brees or Wilson's arm.

I'll will bet all the vbucks that Book plays professional football. Anyone want some of this action?

Dude, that's exactly what I'm getting at.

He doesn't have "the ideal" size, arm, or leg ratio for the NFL.

He's a Kirk Cousins (game manger), at best, one day. I hope he does it. I'll be rooting for him, but he's not the kind of natural talent a franchise drools over.

On a NFL team? I'll take some of that action. The CFL or AAF possibly, but I don't see him donning a NFL uni (as much as I'd love to see it).

This is my bet. Don't go trying to change my stips. Ian Book will get paid to play pro football.

I agree he probably doesn't have the total package to play in the NFL, at least at this time but his height wouldn't keep him out if he had the arm of any number of 6-0 QB's and his legs are probably above average for a starting NFL QB.

As far as the Cousins comparo... Cousins isn't elite but he's thrown for 4000+ numerous times and 5000 once I think. Ian's smoke ain't coming from that fire.

If you give a more precise definition. Spends a Sunday on a 53 man roster? Makes a practice squad? Goes to a team's camp?

EDIT: Nevermind

NFL, XFL, AAF, CFL, PPL, AFL, IFL, <strike>CrusFL</strike>

FIFY

A lot of pro football out there these days and some team will pay enough to make a sharp Mendoza grad postpone his marketing career for the experience of getting paid to play.

As far as the CrusFL, no chance. I openly discriminate against vertically challenged people. 6-4 or gtfo.

Dude has an absolute cannon. Doesn't get much better than that. Ball just jumps out of his hand.

I think Tommy Rees just assured himself the OC position once Chip Long moves on.

was thinking the exact same thing LL.

holy smokes

And apparently word around the program is they already think he has a bright future as an OC. Bring in what seems to be a generational talent at QB with ya, damn Tommy. Get you some.

I wonder if he would be able to start for us, now.

Highly doubt it. He may have the arm, but he's just sophomore in HS. Probably needs some growth in the mental aspect. Big difference playing in front off 2,000 people in HS vs playing on national TV in front of 80,000 fans.

I've made several OC comments about him. I sorta feared he may get poached, or go somewhere smaller to get OC experience with a "career plan" to come back. With TB looking like that, not sure how he could leave... TB could be a career maker lol. And it probably would make Long think hard about leaving (except for the right HC job).

Great vid to pump me up on a Friday. Helps with the depression of ND and IU basketball...

Loy with another article that has an interview and 4 minutes of Buchner throwing when Loy went out to visit him for the commitment story. The video is highly recommended if just for the amazing off balance throws that I'm not sure anyone currently on our roster could make.

https://247sports.com/college/notre...Buchner-can-make-all-of-the-throws-130108728/

ND needs to keep an eye on Clarence Freeman. He's the WR in the video that didn't drop a pass (that I saw). He had a 1000+ yds receiving and 12 TD's w/o Buchner last season. Also had 6 Int's and a PR-TD. He's got all the Ivy's after him. Good genes too, his uncle's former Pro-Bowler Antonio Freeman.

Would make a fine PWO and who knows... maybe he's a late bloomer and ends up 6-1 like his uncle?

247 just released 2021 rankings. Buchner dropped 50 spots to 99. J.J. McCarthy stayed put at 19.

I also saw an update from a parallel universe in which J.J. McCarthy committed to Notre Dame: 247 drops McCarthy to a 3*, moving him out of the Top 300. Tyler Buchner gets his fifth star and moves to 1 overall.

JJ McCarthy played one of the best seasons of any QB in the 2021 class from a statistical perspective. Loy mentioned Buchner will head to a bunch of camps this spring and summer like The Opening in LA and that will allow him to reenter the sweepstakes of the best QB in America. He's got this summer of camps, his junior season, and a summer with Elite 11 and those things next summer before the evaluators have fully made up their minds on him. I think he'll be fine.

TB5* is back on the field this weekend at the Opening Oakland.

Hopefully he'll provide some reason to shut down JJ McC's thread for a while.

He'll get to go up against Jake Rubley who, had Buchner stuck with LAX, might have been the next '21 QB offer. I know, I know, JJ would have surely gotten that offer... right? Some at ISD believe JJ wasn't QB #3 on the '21 board. Blasphemy!

He'll also get to sling it with '20's #1 QB, DJ Ukulele, #4 Jay Butterfield and a lot of other P5 commits.

Shall be interesting...

Very little info or film coming out of yesterday's Opening so far but Tyler did not break 100.

He very well have done the combine and concentrated on the Elite11 drills. I'm not worried about the combine with him, this is the guy who Will Shipley admitted he just barely beat in sprints at a LAX camp last year. Plus, you can see his next level speed in his Freshman film.

But next yer I hope he does it, I'd like to see how he compares to Jack Sears & Brandon Wimbush's numbers.

The only info I’ve seen is Freeman said he made it to the last group of QB’s that included some pretty elite company.

Yeah with a year left I could see him skipping the physical drills and focusing on the throwing

Yeah, once he is fully recovered from injury there is no doubt he has top tier athleticism. Probably not Wimbush level, but still elite for a QB.

With all the consternation in the McCarthy thread I think it's interesting that people don't appreciate how truly elite Buchner's physical skill set is. He has an unbelievable arm talent, and good size coupled with mobility. The only thing that can really derail him is injuries, and the only legitimate rationale for wanting McCarthy would've been that he was local and more likely to stick 1.5 years from taking a commitment.
