Yuge.

Three words: Mike Mother-f**king Mickens

Nice. Is the one we didn't land Deuce Harmon? All others on the board were offered before his arrival, I assume.

This will get people wondering what he can do with a full year under his belt.

This is beyond exciting because recruiting on the big stage was really his only question mark coming in. We all saw what he could do with regards to development. This was a home run hire in every way possible.

Haha, yes the wasted years of Troy Pride and Julian Love. The guy recruited and coached the CB's during the best pass defense production the program has had in a couple decades. He probably deserves a little credit for that. Talk about needing perspective, lol.

Yeah, but it's not the hottest take, is it? If MM can develop players at ND as well as his history suggests he can, then yes - we wasted years with Todd Lyght. Assuming we could have signed him, or someone as effective as him, in lieu of Lyght that is...

Tucker to me is a sees the field as a sophomore, starts as a junior type player.

Great pickup. too bad they didnt have Mike in the fold a month or two earlier.

Don't you ever get tired of banging your head against the wall? I'm still mad Rockne wasted the 1918 season with a 3-1-2 record.

Yes, it is. Super hot take when you call it a wasted. It was hardly that. Our pass defense, 3 years running was good to very good. He recruited 3 of the DB's (Pride, Love, Elliot) responsible for some of that and coached 2. Inarguably the most consistent pass defense we've had under Kelly the last 2. He recruited and coached the best CB (Julian Love) in how long? 20 years. The Pride, Love, Elliot group, that he recruited, is hands down the best DB class of the Kelly era so far. Was he inconsistent on the trail? Yes. Was it wasted, hardly. That is incredible anyone would make that statement.

Let's see what Mickens does with the guys he brings in. Absolutely love what he's doing and the guys he's bringing in. But it's hard to compare, as of today, because it's just on paper as a 4 star and 2 3 stars. Lyght recruited just as well as that and then produced results on the field.

If 2016 wouldnt have happened, you could also add Thomas Graham and Elijah Hicks to his list

If we mention wasted years, I'd have to think BVG and maybe Scott Booker are the guys for that term. And that's maybe even being harsh to Booker, whom I seem to recall people considering a pretty decent recruiter

Great pick up.

Wish his GPA was just a 3.25 or so. That 4.25+ GPA scares me with Palo Alto in need of well, everything.

Lyght's lack of recruiting prowess will forever be the black mark on his ND coaching tenure. Mickens appears to be able to both recruit and develop. That would be a HUGE net positive oer Lyght. Original comment is not a hot take by that definition. Agree to disagree.

Cool. Where does he rank in terms of speed: slower than Pride faster than Love?

Bottom line is ND added a couple of grinders on the trail in Mike Mickens and Lance Taylor. We’ll see about McNulty cause I’ve just not read the same reviews but he seems to be getting Berrong to stick, Evans to commit and Nickel for next cycle. If BK keeps making hires like that then they could be in for a solid 2022 class and beyond. Mickens, LT and McNulty probably shouldn’t be properly judged until the 2022 cycle.

He hasn't been here long enough to make that determination.

False. He's more than proven that he can develop (and coach up) talent at both Cinci and Bowling Green. The only question about him coming in was whether he could recruit at a top level.

Dang, tough break for the kid. I know he wasn't expected to be in the rotation but now he'll have to hobble out on Senior Day on crutches
Good news is if he gets it repaired now, he could be jogging by Senior Day:
Crutches are first few weeks after surgery
Treadmill walking/step machine 2-6 weeks after.
Jogging at 3 months
Preparation to return to sport at 5-6 months: straight running, muscle building, endurance, no range of motion issues, etc
Actual return to sport sometime after that depending on athlete and physician's all clear.

But yeah, out for the year of course. Hopefully he's able to make a full recovery.
