Crazy to think that a basketball player who never made an official visit or even visited a single school, including Duke, his 1 solid offer, is now the face of Notre Dame Football. He seems to have an electric personality. An athlete playing QB. I’ve watched essentially every highlight that exists. I think we may have just gotten a commitment from a legitimate Heisman candidate.

I still can't get over that he could have been an NFL draft pick

But ND injured him, and now got him...
Oh the irony
Devine intervention
We can Never overlook the impact of Sam going to that tent after the game was over to check on a fellow human being.

It was something special to see... especially in hindsight.
It was genuine and everyone with half a brain noticed.

I give Sam all the credit In the world for leading our team this year.
RL Is here because of something similar.

Dude is taller and bigger than Ian Book and has a much bigger arm.
His style of play is very reminiscent of Ian Book. A taller, bigger version who has the physical tools to be a 1st rounder but no doubt very similar.

Ian was good but he could've been so much better because he couldn't throw spot before the player was open because of that missed many opportunities but even with that he did do a good amount of damage with his arm and legs it just could've been so much more.

Both are athletes but different types of athletes. Book is a crafty athlete who used his athleticism to keep drives alive - whether it was using his legs to pick up four yards on 3rd and 3 or or buying time to dump the ball off to a receiver on a short or intermediate route. A right handed Steve Young. Riley is is a big explosive athlete with presence that can run away from you, run through you or buy time and throw over the top of your defense. Reminds me of Andrew Luck except far FAR less polished as a college QB.

So at this point last year the Hartman Thread wasn't even started yet and Riley Leonard already has more posts in this thread then the Sam Hartman Thread.
True, but Hartman also wasn't trying to squeeze for more cash. He committed 5 pages into his thread, within days of the speculation beginning. Leonard has been in the portal for 2 weeks when there's not much else to talk about.

Which is why I am not 100% blaming/out on Parker. This was not his offense. It was what Freeman wanted to run.
Saying you don’t run RPO against zone coverage does sound more like something freeman would say.

Malik is dumb as hell. No question

Your comment on Angeli having no mobility is also dumb as hell.
Well his senior year in highschool he had -1 yards so where is the mobility at? He ins't a runner hell Hartman is a better runner

I think the failures were multiple and everyone likes to make overly broad statements after a year of disappointment. After 2022, we should've gotten rid of Washington and Golden was on the hot seat (according to many on this forum).

This year, it's Parker.

Parker failed to score enough points in our biggest games, it just so happens those were also the best defenses we faced.

Parker also had way less talent at wideout than you're willing to admit. Thomas, who was our projected receptions leader at the outset of the season, was injured for like 10 games. Colzie was injured and closed it down to save a year. Greathouse was injured. The top TE target, Mitchell, was injured. Didn't get Raridon back until the last couple games.

He had Flores and Tyree consistently. He had Faison at week 7 onward. Flores and Faison couldn't play multiple roles as true freshman, one being awarded a scholarship on his callup. It was an absolute mash unit that started the seasons 3 WRs below ideal numbers.

If you want to have a dynamic, high-scoring offense, you must have consistent WRs that can get separation and we didn't have that. Merriweather, who we expected to emerge, was a Ghandi-level pacifist when the ball was in the air so Hartman started ignoring him.

Now, if we want to say: He's the OC, he has to produce then I completely agree. But if we really want to look at the failures of this past year, we should honestly review the contributing factors.

Our WR room is already better in terms of numbers and proven production. I'd love to add one more transfer to the freshman class but even without that, we should be able to find a 6-7 man rotation out of: Collins, Mitchell, Greathouse, Faison, Colzie, Thomas, KK Smith, Cam W., Gilbert and Saldate.

It'll still require at least one freshman to be ready to contribute unless all of the other WRs ahead of them pan out. We're still about 2 short of what you should have. And we're losing Estime who was an absolute monster, capable of extending drives.

Parker will have improved talent in many areas but a new set of questions to answer. Excited for the offseason as the offense should look very different.
I will never forgive Porker for his stupidity at the end of the Ohio State game...he cost us the game...just run 3 times and win the game

Hartman was only here for a year and while sometimes the play on the field was disappointing, I will forever respect and honor the guy because of the way he fully threw himself into the program and team, in a way that didn't feel fake or contrived to me. He was an excellent ambassador for ND and was a positive to the program, even if we only went 9-3 with him.

I don't understand how anybody can make judgments on Angeli, for good or for bad. He has played against nothing but shit tier competition so far, with no pressure whatsoever to operate the offense. He is not an athlete like Leonard, I know that much. Go watch Leonard's basketball highlights if you need proof of that.

You can call me a boomer and bookmark this post for next January when ND is a top-3 playoff favorite.

We are not going to win a national championship with Riley Leonard... or any grad transfer QB. We should have let Angeli, Michey, and Carr compete for the job. IMO, the benefit of Leonard will be (maybe) one win at the cost of a year of development for those guys (who may end up transferring because the coaches don't believe in them).

If ND really wants to get in the QB transfer game, we should be going after freshman 5-stars like Ewers and Fields and not these one-year rentals.

Wait until Carr throws for 3500 yards and ends up at UGA or Bama....We haven't felt that sting yet...but we will.

I’m not sure if they are loyalists and want to be loyal to the guys that signed as freshman all the way up or if they read an article that made them believe he’s the next Joe Montana or if they are going on their own blind eye test. Amazing how many people want to have Minchey and Angeli battle it out and want nothing to do with transfers.

Prister has been saying for a long time that Carr is not a threat to start right away. Not sure if its a size/strength thing or what.

We will have plenty of young talented QBs on this team, if you got a transfer that was more then a one year rental then you risk loosing them. Leonard is a proven and experienced leader, having him on the team will only help Carr and Minchey get better and learn from.
We do have a shot with Leonard, watch his 2022 film. We are surrounded him with weapons. The only reason concern is the young OLine if we can't land someone in the portal
