Robert’s is absolutely clueless. Writes a dumb article saying what he is hearing about the WR group is unsettling, not once did he mention that they are going up against the best DB room in america.

It may be the best DB room but we've seen with our own eyes that outside of Moore, they can be beat. Half the board wanted Gray gone. If Faison and Graham are day 2 NFL pick talents like people think they are and Greathouse is injury-free and at 2024 playoff level, they should be winning a fair share of matchups. Maybe they are, but I would like to hear more positive buzz on the top guys in the group in particular.

Genuine question - what did we learn from the beat last fall camp?

QB was a whiff. Nothing really at RB. They liked Pauling but that was a pretty known commodity. OL? Don’t recall much. DL? Don’t recall much. LB? Don’t recall much. CB? Don’t recall much, they really should have pegged the lack of depth. Safety there was hype of Tae Johnson.

During the time he was at IB, I enjoyed his takes and thought he was anything but clueless. And right or wrong, the WR room is ND's biggest question mark this year imho. Lots of potential but, besides Faison, little production.

That speaks more to our overall talent level than anything else.

Is there a true #1 guy right now? No. But Faison and Greathouse started playoff games for us 17 months ago, and the talent is certainly there for someone else (or multiple guys) to emerge, especially with the expected improvement in QB play. But to call this a concern after a week of practice is nothing more than a desperate attempt to get clicks. Nothing more.

I don't think it's just a desperate play for clicks. The question remains with Leonard whether he was actually capable of throwing downfield but our lack of dynamic playmaker on the outside hurt us against OSU in the first 3 quarters of that championship game. We just couldn't keep up.

A lack of a true #1 WR is a legit concern with this team when we ultimately go against top competition. Yes, it's nice that our 4th-9th WRs are far far better than years past but if we're nitpicking this team, a lack of an alpha playmaker at WR is a legit concern. That's not saying that Graham or Faison can't develop into that over the year but it'd be nice to hear reports that one of the top guys was taking that leap.

past years not having a solid and defined WR1 might be a problem but I think we have a lot 1A, 1B, and 1C types and I don’t see that as a problem.

To the bolded, what really hurt us was having three or four replacement OL players, losing 2-3 DL a LB and I think a CB? It's really hard for me to recall all the injuries but I remember that as a snake-bitten year by the time we rolled into the championship game.

As to the true #1 WR, we all hope one develops. Most teams have to wait and see what they have when the lights turn on. Occasionally you get a great player for a 2-3 years. We have quite a few viable candidates, let's see if one of them bloom in the fall. Enough high end talent b/w WRs and TEs to be optimistic. Not enough proven if you're a pessimist.

We don't have a dominant #1 guy, but I wouldn't be surprised if Faison/Graham/Greathouse end up with similar production to Indiana's Cooper/Sarratt/Becker trio from last year - 40-60 ypg for each and plenty of touchdowns.

If you have a QB like Mendoza or Carr who are good at reading the play pre-snap and quick to process, you can have a very dangerous passing attack spreading the ball around.

And, while there haven't been reports of absolute dominance on the part of our receivers, there's definitely been some good things said about them.

Everything kind of changes if Porter gets healthy. He has the alpha big body you need. There’s plenty of speed between Fiason and Graham, and Greathouse is a jack of all trades. Gilbert has a ceiling that’s known. Get Porter healthy and I’ll take this WR group as a top 5 in the country tbh.

It’s silly because the people complaining that the WRs haven’t been reported as dominating would be the people who freak out that DBs suck and say Aaron Henry is garbage if the WRs were dominating.

I get what you're saying but this is one of the rare years where I don't think we would lol. If I was hearing reports that Carr and our WRs were dominating this defensive backfield I'd be booking a hotel in Vegas.
