We agree here

It looks like a short yardage/fourth quarter drill building up leg strength to move the chains. I think it's pretty cool.

The only concern I have is walking the resistance band back could lead to a knee strain. It would take a pretty clumsy step for that to happen though.

I think the only vehicle to serious WR reps for him is if he’s a markedly better blocker than others. But with injuries inevitable very happy to see they found another diamond in the rough.

Yes, that must be it. Either the ND football staff or BGI staff are trying to piss off the public fanbase. Checks out.

We’re starving for football so much that we’re arguing over the effectiveness of a drill that the (likely) highest paid RB coach in the sport is using

That is classic dynamic resistance strength building. (Some folks need an education, jeez.)

I liked the thing particularly nowadays that refs allow the OLine backpush downfield (unless we outlawed it again, as I heard was being talked about.) The drill might also inculcate an automatic balance sense to not "go down" until you actually get your feet taken out from under you. We've seen in modern NFL backs (and now down to college) the insistence on fighting for the extra even few inches every carry.

I don't know much about positional drills. What makes this dumb?

IMO this is more of a winter/spring S&C movement. Heavy resistance training with some carry over to football situations.

August should be about as much game-like simulation as possible. Quick bursts, change of direction, moving obstacles, etc.

If we want to train ball security, there are a lot more realistic ways to do it.

Tacklers tell you they're going to hang from your hip while simultaneously pulling the ball backwards. They attack from a multitude of angles and violently punch the ball on a vertical plane, typically while another defender engages. That can be recreated easily.

Sorry but this is one of the stupidest drills I've ever seen.

Basically the same concept as running with a weighted sled. Working on form, explosion, and balance. 10/10 would recommend for a RB.
I've noticed a lot of men of certain age are always pushing the sled up and down the globogym pseudo-football sideline area. IS that what I need to do when the day comes that I can no longer barbell squat?
I’m an idiot. I watched that clip like six times before I figured out where the football was coming from.
I thought it was deflected

Some great resources on this topic if some idiot on a message board isn't your cup of tea:

betz (@adaptskill) on X (former Def. Analyst for Lanning at Oregon)

and

Shawn Myszka (@MovementMiyagi) on X (expert on biomechanics and exercise science who works with a bunch of NFL guys)

Looking at their accounts it seems like two guys who have a stance against a particular style of football drill that isn't in line with what most high level coaches clearly think. They might be right (big "might"), but I think taking their word for it would be trading one appeal to authority for another.
