If Micah Gilbert does in fact emerge as a quality threat at boundary, that's very welcome news.

Between him and Quincy Porter, you have to feel pretty good about the potential at that position. Just hope Porter can get back to full reps soon here.

Boundary is less of a concern if Graham plays to his talent level. Defenses are going to account for Faison on every snap. If Graham is the same type of threat, the boundary receiver, whoever it is, doesn't have to be a star. He just has to take advantage of the attention Graham and Faison will command.

Carr is going to find the open man, and he's accurate enough to fit the ball into tight windows. That makes the boundary receiver's job pretty simple - catch the ball when your number is called and keep the chains moving. If Porter develops into a true big-play threat, that's a bonus. I'm just not convinced the offense needs him to be one to put up a lot of points.

Back of the mind questions as we head towards fall camp:

If defenses scheme to take away the run, is the OL good enough to still keep drives alive? Are the RBs? If forced to pass and Carr doesn't understand what he sees on defense, can he calm himself and scan for the open man rather than needing pre-snap reads to be accurate?

Can Fitzgerald, Bubba Frazier and/or Ian Premer be good enough to earn early snaps? Will their snaps grow over the year?

Who is competing for nickel?

If Carr plays to the level we all think he can, it’d be incredibly unwise of defenses to play the run and load the box. I’d expect Carr to see a lot of cover 2 this year.

This

I think defenses will be more worried about Carr than our run game.

Looks like the players are staying at the hotel across from campus again. I’ll be down there working the next two weeks. Time to do what I do best, awkwardly creep on people.
And this whole time I thought you were best at pissing off the Mrs.

A man of many talents.

I expect BYU and Miami to load the box to start the games and force Carr to beat them through the air. The other teams on our schedule might not have the secondaries to try that.

If they can’t stuff the run, they’ll have zero chance slowing down our offense.

If Carr shows an inability to get the ball down field in September, then I could see them doing that

If they sit back in coverage our line and backs will gash them. Teams have to stop our run first even without Love and Price. Teams have to try to make us one dimensional or they’ll have no chance.
Miami might think they have a front six good enough to stop the run without committing more defenders, but I doubt it.

Implied probability of ND making the playoff is ~85% just looking at betting odds. Wild.
