ND is preseason #1 (effectively tied with OSU) on Dokter Entropy power ratings. Not sure how their preseason rankings were, but overall they were the most accurate power rating system in 2025.

Coaches poll officially out. I think 5 is low, but imagine other coaches aren’t our biggest fans after last year + the auto bid. Expect #4 or higher in the AP.

I posted in the other thread, but I'm shocked IU has 14 first place votes and is ranked 6th.

Someone has to be ranked #1. Who would you have chosen?

Indiana, Georgia, Oregon or Notre Dame.

Indiana is the defending champion plus those 3 are much higher in returning production. OSU has massive losses on D to justify a #1. Even with the 2027 1.1 Pick, they lost 4 Top 11 picks from a year ago and they no doubt have recruiting talent to fill in but I don’t think it will be just “business as usual” replacing a few of them as the #1 ranking indicates.

If BYU and SMU were named Michigan and Clemson, we wouldn’t be getting near as much shit, but we really could use a few off Wisconsin, Michigan State, Stanford, UNC going 8-4. Not enough teams you think of as fringe top 25 programs pulling their weight.

I’d put ND at #4. I think Texas, Oregon, and OSU have the most returning 1st/2nd round NFL talent. Oregon and Texas are clearly loaded.

But I think ND can beat all of these teams. I also think Miami can beat any of these teams.

Us returning both coordinators and QB is Yuge.

I don't think I ever recall seeing such disparity in first place votes. Tells me it's a wide-open field this year. So coaches are either really high on IU or extremely doubtful they can reload after losing all of that veteran talent.

There seems to be a massive deviation in the coaches' votes for IU. They have the second most amount of 1st place votes but are ranked 6th overall. Seems like a bunch of coaches/interns/side-pieces are dinging the Hoosiers for losing the Heisman trophy winner. I figured the #1 team would be OSU, Texas, or Oregon.

I would defend IU for example by pointing out additions like the two KSU DEs and Marsh should be viewed as just as able to replicate 2025 success as OSU replacing Styles and Downs with a Wisconsin LB, FSU transfer and Duke transfer.

If Kurt can get IU into the championship game with everything they lost, I have no problem calling him the best coach in football. But I don't expect that to happen.

Clemson being ranked is LOL funny

How many 6 - 6 teams with no coaching change get ranked the following season?

The last place you want to be is ranked #1 pre-season.

The last 4 preseason #1's were Texas, Georgia, Georgia and Alabama.

If Georgia doesn't make the semis this year, it's time to put their preseason darlings tag to rest.
