2026 Fall Camp Thread

Question regarding concerns on RB -

1) was it ever reported that we were reaching out to portal RBs?
2) have we ever had a glaring hole/concern about a position group that the staff didn't try to address in the portal?

1) I believe we did what you would call standard conversations they should have at this point with all position groups. They quickly backed off the price that anyone (ex Hollywood Smothers) you may view as an upgrade may cost

2) I guess define try and define glaring maybe

Yeah honestly I'm not sure why anyone is worried about RB. I honestly think we would be okay running Osborne and Walton out there behind our OL and we would do just fine.

Found it interesting that Mike Frank talked about damn near every RB in the room other than Nolan James today. Maybe he's just the obvious number 2 so it doesn't need to be said? But he talked about Aneyas as the clear number 1, and then mentioned Walton, Osborne, and Kedron.

Maybe that's the case. No knock on Nolan James, but Kedron Young just brings a different element to the run game.

I am very much not a Nolan James believer, personally. One of those guys we keep hearing good things about but what we've seen (albeit in very limited action) was not impressive. Then again we've seen about as much from Kedron and I'm convinced he's going to be a stud so maybe I just have no idea what I'm talking about

Nothing earth-shattering here, but my three concerns heading into the season:

1. We are screwed if Carr goes down.
2. The lack of a proven alpha at WR. I think we definitely have more talent and athleticism this season; but, guys need to step up.
3. I am not sure what we have at TE other than Flanagan brings an edge as a blocker and Premer is a freak.

I agree with 2008 that we will be more than fine at RB.

He looked impressive in the spring game last year but that was more in the passing game.

Like you said, very limited action. I don't think he's the sort who blows you away with his measurables or athleticism but he seems like a serious, mature young man and he was New Jersey High School Player of the Year. New Jersey has very good high school football, so that counts for a lot in my book. We'll see.

I think if all else goes well we could win a title with Nolan James as RB1, but he’s also the least spicy among the 5 especially with JO surging through fall.

Per the II pod, Freeman’s body language was poor because he was pissed. Apparently the DL got beat by the OL.

What are we doing. He’s a football coach after a practice, some guys practiced well and some didn’t. I bet he even yelled at some of them!

And then said Defensive tackle was the deepest group on the team.

I'm usually a defender of the beat but I really think it's best to take anything they say in August with a huge grain of salt. It's pretty obvious after last year that the information that gets out to them is the (dis?)information that Freeman and coaching staff wants.

Same - James was really the only running back I've seen at ND in awhile, small sample or big, that I wasn't excited to see more of (including Payne).

Happy that he is getting some hype in practice and from coaches and I'd love to be wrong.

I'm guessing this was MF posturing which I'm down with. He's lost to Marshall and NIU, and started 0-2 last year. He knows what immense disappointment is and a scrimmage barring serious injury cannot be it.

He's sending the message to the team LND, you think you're great but you haven't done anything yet.
