I believe classes start on January 13. It is usually a good tell but some of the transfers won’t be listed. Example, Ty Washington is finishing up his degree at Arkansas over the winter/spring months.

Shaw could be in a similar place, only three full seasons, so he may be finishing up at degree with UNC over the same time span. Dawson would be going into his sixth year, so he’s more plausible. Unless he’s finishing up a masters like Rod Heard this past year and wasn’t enrolled as a student at ND until June.

Shaw and Dawson you say?

Shaw is one of the highest rated DTs in the portal and Dawson has put on better tape lol

Who do you want?
Their stats don't blow me away

Shaw (247 has him as the 12th best DL in the portal)

Dawson (247 doesn't have him ranked yet)

Dawson had his best game of the season against ND. Emerged as starter before injury (“injury”?). Declined a visit to Michigan.

Not sure I can trust the staff any more given on that

Shaw has no doubt disappointed in his career. But they don’t make many humans built like him.

I'll add that I have a pretty strong belief in Washington's ability to coach up borderline studs into actual studs based on the fact that we're playing our misfit toys squad against Georgia and getting strip sacks.

I'm curious to see how our run in the playoffs keeps guys that were leaning on transferring staying. Guys like:
Colzie
Thomas
Sneed
Some of the OL guys
Colzie- I think he graduates and is done with football
Thomas- I think he transfers
Sneed- I think he stays
Some of the OL guys- if any leave it will be ones buried on the depth chart, otherwise none leave & they buy in like Tosh Baker has.

Shaw and Dawson would be excellent additions. They add the size that we are currently missing on the roster. We have a lot of speed/quickness at the other positions. Think about who we can pair with a 6'5, 330 NT or a fast 6'2 305 DT: Hinish would be ane excellent complement to Dawson, Shaw and Rubio would be a great combo, then look back at the list of DEs we have maturing at the same time: Botelho, Traore, Burnham, B. Young, L. Thomas, Tuihalamaka.

Then can one of Houston, Mukam, Vernon, Sevillano or the freshman emerge and push for snaps?

Those two DTs would be incredible additions and would create the biggest defensive interior we've had in many years. We've always been light on the DL, adding that kind of beef could really help this defense take another step.

I don’t think there is a player on this roster who stands to gain more by staying than Sneed. He could develop into a day 2 draft pick if he stays the course in this program.

I think Thomas stays he’s mature enough to realize he probally isn’t gonna play in the NFL why not get a masters at ND

I’m not sure how realistic it would be to get both Shaw and Dawson. They both only have 1 year of eligibility left, just like Rubio. At least 1 of those 3 would be 2nd string their last year.

Washington uses a pretty healthy rotation already. If he had a two-three deep capable of starter minutes, I could see it spread out even more evenly.

A fresh d-line is game changing.

Yep. We only have a few players that absolutely must be on the field and DL is one of those position groups where managing snap counts is important.

Love having JT on the team. I don’t know much about his behavior off of the field, but on the field he is absolutely a net positive and capable of helping us win. The fact that they’ve trusted him to on end-arounds in short yardage situations tells me a little about what the coaches think of him.

Don’t know much about him off the field either, but seems like an ultimate team first guy with nothing but a great attitude.

During the pregame, ESPN showed what looked to be the entire roster encircled around JT while he spoke and fired everyone up. Pretty cool to see.
