All that aside, despite the underwhelming times, this defense definitely played faster than the 40 times would indicate.

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed with the numbers. You would think having Landow would help, but apparently not.

I will say, one of the reporters on a podcast mentioned before that players don't love testing at ND because the turf is slow.

But, OTOH, Evans actually ran .05 seconds faster than the combine, so unless the extra prep time did him a bunch of good, I don't know how slow the turf really is.

Also, pro days are all hand timed. So it should be a little bit slower.

and it being slow is Weis’ fault, he liked to let the grass grow out.

I don't mean to be shitty, but why is this a "classy" kind of pushback?

We recruited him to transfer, I assume he and we formed relationships during the recruiting process and while he was here, now we can offer him a reasonable pro-day even though it didn't work out.

Seems like a good thing to do on a human level, and when prospects talk, he'll say "man they treated me good even though they didn't have to."

Costs ND very little and seems like a lot of goodwill



EDIT: Whoa... maybe I just misread stlnd01's whole point. It wasn't a sarcastic "classy", it was an unironic one? If so, my bad. Things are so mean and whatnot lately, it's hard to tell sometimes. Mea culpa if that's what you meant.

Agree that he's going to have a huge year and destroy some backs, but revenge on who?
I don't remember him being disrespected or even having a really bad game. He wrecked everyone they played except NIU.

A revenge to win again to get back to the national championship game, not the revenge in a bad way on any team or person.
Every year under Freeman we have a LB who steps up as a leader- Bertrand, Kiser, and now Bowen. I'd also like to see Sneed take a big step.

Yep, no irony here. I agree it's a good thing for us to do, with zero downside. I doubt that Charlotte (where Ekwonu transferred) or Jacksonville State (Carter) draw anything like the scouts that we do, and if coming to ours helps them get noticed, that's great. Ekwonu was here for years and got his degree. Would be shitty of us to not have him back.

I’ve been pretty steady on this last season. Price, to me, just bounces everything out. I thought Williams was clearly the better back between the two…he runs harder, has better vision, is shiftier, he’s a better receiving threat and pass blocker. But what the hell do I know?

I would note that most of these are true juniors. Maybe I'm missing someone but I don't really see a lot of the seniors or 5Ys (are there any 5Ys?) as likely captain material.

I don't know about shiftier. Price does a phenomenal job of changing direction running at full speed. He also has more success running between the tackles than I think you're giving him credit for. Granted, I think he does need to be better as a pass blocker and receiver.



Some highlights that include inside runs as chunk plays.

If he has good ball security (we need to wait and see for a game-rookie), and he is the type of runner who trusts the hole, it would be hard not to run Young out there. The little we've seen makes him seem like a blaster.

If the above isn't true, I'd say Williams --- amazed how good he looked at both physical and mental football.

We'll never be able to get all these guys their "just" number of snaps. Reminds me of our bunch early last year when the staff was playing Ford (I guess because of better blocking mentality), and we were trying to get five guys snaps.
