I still take a flyer on Bettis. I'm not going to ever ever worry about taking too many commitments, especially this early. Between flips and transfers the NIL is like Who's Line is it Anyway. The numbers are made up and the commitments don't matter.

I'd be shocked if we didn't take Bettis Jr. It'd be super dumb to alienate someone like Bettis Sr.

Bettis is a take for me, he seems like he would be a good program kid. Especially with the turnover we had at WR after last season.

You need guys like Bettis who probably won’t transfer. He’ll stick it out and you never know by the time he’s an upper classmen. They’re aiming to take 4 I believe so Bettis, Burress, and Meadows + one other top 250 guy is a very good class still.

I get it from a numbers standpoint, but this wr class needs a lot more speed. That'd be 3 guys without a lot of proven production in hs to this point. We all love Meadows given his size but Bettis and Buress seem like a giant roll of the dice.

I wonder if that says more about how the staff feels where they're at with other top of the board prospects.

People bitching about taking Burress and Bettis when our best WR was a 2 star Lacrosse player
I posted this in the Burress thread too, but, yeah, for whatever reasons, our best WRs in recent years have generally not been the top recruits, while most of the top recruits - w/one or two exceptions - haven’t really panned out as advertised.
On paper I’m not wowed by Burress (or Bettis), but I’ll trust the staff here.

I have a random question...but with ND taking so many legacy kids like Young, Urlacher, Clark, Taylor, Burgess, Bettis Jr...is their any kind of loophole that ND can use to have these kids on the roster without them being on scholarship? Like them being PWOs or giving their dads an "analyst role" so their kids get free tuition? I doubt it...but thought about it, if it would be a possibility. Guys like Taylor and Young are definitely scholarship worthy but if there was some kind of loophole to take Bettis Jr or Pritchett without using a scholarship or having them pay to be here, ND should definitely explore it.

I'm a fan of Bettis as a safety, not a WR. Haven't seen Burress's film.

The problem there is, how else would you recruit guys like that? Sure, their dads are rich. They can afford it, but they all are/were well-regarded recruits with multiple offers. It sounds great to the staff and the fans to just assume each would forego a scholly and pay their own way, but you have to look at it from their perspective. They worked hard in high school and earned their spots among the top 1,000 or so best recruits in the country (in Clark's case, he earned his status with his play in college). That's no small feat and being offered a scholarship to play at a P5 school is the fruit of their labor. It's not the money behind the scholarship. It's the status. If we hadn't offered each a scholarship they likely would have accepted one from somewhere else.

Who's the last legacy recruit we signed who was a big time ~95 rated kid with all the right offers? Is this ever the case for ND?

And here's what that 2 star lacrosse player did as a senior down in fla:
Two star ranking from Rivals
1,817 all-purpose yards as a senior
26 total touchdowns scored
Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 21 Player of the Year
All-District honors as quarterback and safety

Objectively, comparing Faison to Bettis/ Buress at this point seems like a no brainer in favor especially when you watch Faison on hs. His elite quickness stuck out, even then.

Are you specifically talking about ND legacies? Or NFL legacies in general? If the ladder, Joe Alt.
Was asking about ND but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask about all NFL legacies. Just seems like we get all the 3 star legacies. Alt obviously turned into the perfect recruit but even he was a 3-star tweener for most of his recruitment, and had no other big time offers. He did get his 4th star late in the game, but just barely.

Alt was a complete missed evaluation by the sites. 247 eventually wisened up and ranked him in the top 200. Even then, that was still way too low.

Notre Dame knew what they were getting.

No way of adding them all up but I wonder what % of recruits from the NFL studs in the 80-90s are rated 3/4/5. Seems like more often than not they're not big time recruits and you'd think they'd get the benefit of the doubt on name. Again, just an observation that can't be validated, and probably not unique to ND.

If he sticks, Ivan Taylor will be the next elite legacy recruit

No upside with bettis, it’s not a flyer, it’s a name only commitment if you take him

No it’s not… bettis is not good, Burress is coming on, meadows is all potential but insanely raw

Meadows burress and 2 other studs would be a very good class

2/13 Update: (added Strebig and Burress, removed Linkon Cure from "Likely Commit")

Both the "Likely Class" and "Dream Class" composite scores have gone down, mostly due to the removal of Linkon Cure.

Any additional changes I should make? Especially re: LB recruiting - I have no idea where to put most of these guys.

Any other comments, especially on guys I should take off the list, would be welcome!

At DT, isnt there a kid out of Florida, Jaquez Carter or something like that? No idea about interest level, but I thought he had been mentioned on a couple of sites.
