If (when) we ever go through a bumpy stretch as a program, I’m expecting the beat to go after MF. He’s made their jobs near impossible and has embarrassed the fuck out of them lol. What do they care if we are winning if they can’t sell Subscriptions.

Something that I wish people (media) would discuss more in this is that we all have been made aware of Carr throwing picks but seemingly nobody know the context behind these picks… interceptions in camp and practice aren’t always a *bad* thing! If a QB is just testing his limits and trying to push the envelope to improve himself while knowing he can’t always do that in games, that isn’t always a point of evidence against him. Not to say that Carr never threw a bad interception, but clearly no one knows what any of them looked like at all.
This. The highlight video from Sunday showed a pick. The ball was either deflected or batted at the LOS.

Yup. If he struggles, it's going to be Boston-or-Philly-media-level bad in terms of the knives coming out.

Life was easier when Rees would just tell Loy everything
Yeah Rees told Loy that Shaduer was going to start. I guess he meant the first preseason game! I here Rees is also not a fan of Skyline.

Has anyone checked on Mike Frank?
Dude spent about twenty mins bragging about he and his staff called Kenny in the spring.

Was there just one source they all had who was just really on the minchey bandwagon or trying to mess with the beat? If it was a troll job by a source bravo
Without going into details, this is basically what happened. They took their observations from limited practice viewings and coupled it with one guy that was convincingly running his mouth with half-true information.

I can’t imagine if they were all terrible Freeman would have chosen him to lead the team to start the year.
This is a really good point because in almost all sports coaches tell players some version of "the time to make mistakes is in practice." If you practice scared and just check it down over and over again that's not how you learn.

Who on the beat will step up and write a Josh Allen - interceptions are good - MY COLUMN article? Maybe some Drew Allar is too conservative thrown in?

End of the day Carr has the most potential and highest ceiling. I think he could throw for 300-400 yards multiple games this year but he could also have games where he throws 1-2 picks

Fortuna - “me you and everyone else in the media talks to a lot of people who are (at practice) and I have not heard a single soul say CJ Carr has been the better QB in camp than Kenny Minchey”
Trying to hide in a group of failures. So the math. Angeli is gone and he didn’t leave because he could t beat out Minchey. These guys do something else to make a living right?

I have lost a lost of respect for some of the beat today. They are literally trying to claim they know more than the staff without being at practice. What a bunch of arrogant pieces of work. Guess what? You write articles and get to talk on podcasts about ND football. You aren't important.

I know how he gets heat on this board, but gotta give credit to Driskell. First thing he said was he was wrong and his sources were wrong. Then went into how ND will look with CJ. He was worlds more professional than the rest today.

The arrogance of these keyboard warriors thinking they know more than the staff and telling them their decision is wrong is one of the more shocking things I have read in a while. Lost a lot of respect for them. That being said, I am pumped. Go Irish!!

I don't know who specifically was going down the path you described but I'm in agreement if what you say is true.

I'm not a Driskell fan but that's how you handle it.

Who is suggesting the decision was wrong? Or they know more?

Shoutout to Merke, Lion and his source, and Arrow for providing their information even though they took crap from the beat/redditors/etc.

I never doubted you all, and would take your views and thoughts over any beat writer out there. If you start up articles/pods, let me know.

Today is the day of our reign as freaking jabronis on a free Notre Dame football board.

Ryan Roberts article is similar to Brice where it’s just talking about how Minchey should have been named QB
Is this the one titled “The truth about the Notre Dame QB decision?”

The audacity to state he knows the truth is WILD lol

I thought something stank when even though @arrowryan with his own 2 eyes saw Carr take every first team rep on that Wednesday practice, Irish Illustrated's pod among others tried saying sources say that simply wasn't the case and they split 50/50, completely contradicting *arguably* his biggest takeaway that again, he saw with his own 2 eyes.

I figured with all the leaks Friday it really was Minchey and Ryan probably just saw Carr's last shot, but nope. Today is the Red Wedding for the beat.

II's actions on Friday are the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in the great staff vs beat war that's about to start. I'd bet at least Sampson and Brice are picking Miami to win and we're going to start seeing a lot of seeing guessing of Freeman when anything goes wrong

This has all been fun, but isn't the simplest explanation here that the competition really was 50/50 (Minchey progressed, Carr didn't), the beat latched onto the pro-Minchey elements of practice reports because that was an undeniably more interesting story, and things just snowballed into a narrative that continued to feed itself? I have a hard time believing this was an organized disinformation campaign (why would they do that to CJ? Why would they give false hope to Minchey?), so it can be true that:
  1. The beat actually was hearing more positive things about Minchey than Carr, but Freeman was so enamored with Carr's upside Minchey needed to really outplay CJ and he didn't do it by enough
  2. The sources that got cited on here were accurately hearing that the staff loved CJ so much it'd be difficult for him to be displaced. Maybe the coaching staff knew Carr's camp "struggles" were fixable or not representative of who they know he can be, saw the bigger picture, and weren't wavering on their pre-camp evaluation
It's fun to have an us-vs-them beef with the beat reporters, but my guess is that Carr entered with a big lead, didn't practice as well (beat reports were legit), but would have needed to slip a lot to lose the job and didn't do that (IE sources were legit).

This is my first post on here in a decade, by the way. Fun week.
