Don't worry, this is ArrowRyan's source

At the end of the day, I just want the QB who can lead this team to win now because they’re good enough to win a championship in 2025.

I was able to get boots on the ground Wednesday and talked to someone who watched practice today. Figured I’d share with you guys what I had, because I’m not normally in a position to gather information like this.

Defense is violent
Kenny probably had the better weekend
Receivers are good
DL got over on the OL
Concerning part for me in this report is kicking game is not where you want it. Jeter had important kicks in last year's opener at A&M and throughout the season/playoffs. You know some games will come down to the special teams. Hopefully, they get things straightened out in the next week or two.

Really thought Mills and Cross were good, not great last year (probably due to nagging injuries) and don’t expect a significant drop off at DT between Onye / Rubio / Dawson / Hinish.
Agree I think we will need a 5th guy to emerge this year for depth we played 5 guys inside a lot last year

I think it's more that Carr is our highest-rated QB recruit in a decade (going back to Wimbush, per 247's all-time rankings) and, like, he might have scared off Dante Moore. People want to see him cook. I think that matters a lot more than his grandfather coaching at Michigan 25 years ago.
I get that, but there’s more to it than rankings. Walker Howard was a big pickup for us (I believe both Howard and Carr were the 5th or 6th rated QB of their class). Howard’s now on his third school (as he couldn’t cut it at LSU or Ole Miss) ….Also, it wasn’t like Kenny was a 2-star…

You either can read defenses, understand the playbook, protect and distribute the ball, and maintain composure or you can’t. Ups and downs will lose you games.

You can either play and you got it or you don’t. And that’s not to imply that Carr doesn’t — perhaps he needs more reps and more time. Or, perhaps you all underestimated Kenny Kool 😎

I don’t expect either QB to be perfect this year I’m assuming regardless there’s gonna be growing pains and I’d expect probally 10-12 INT over a 14 game season. Next year is when I’d expect the QB to be more accurate and make better decisions.

Yeah it's not just rankings (though a Top 5 QB recruit is more rare for us than perhaps it is at LSU).
It's about this being our first truly wide-open QB competition in some time, about Freeman & co. clearing the decks for Carr or Minchey after a few years of transfer QBs, about the contours of Carr's recruitment (committing early, sticking at a time when other high-profile QBs like Moore and Deuce flopped around, etc.), and more than anything I think there's a sense that, for a long time now, we have been an elite QB away from true national title contention and some hope that Carr is finally that guy. (I remember when Five-Star Phil was gonna be that guy.)

All that has more to do with the Carr hype, IMO. His last name is just sort of a F U Michigan cherry on top.

Regardless, they should go with the best college quarterback, not the highest-rated high school recruit. I completely agree Kenny is no slouch and has always been a strong contender to win the job. We'll see what happens.

I would be surprised if it’s not Minchey

I have never been told which way the staff is leaning. But I continue to hear that Minchey has outplayed Carr basically all camp. That’s includes yesterday. This coming from people that have been at practice 5+ times.

My devils advocate position today, if Kenny has been that much better than Carr, then it should be an easy decision. Yet it does not seem to be easy.

I hope Carr's "camp" is not what's complicating the decision. I've heard loose rumors that his family is in MF's ear, but it didn't exactly come from a reliable narrator.

Does this mean our OL is actually going to be worse than expected? Or our defense is going to be lights out?
Probably OL worse than expected. Its been under-reported, but our line did not have great underlying stats last year. Now, we're not exactly bringing back that line in full, but Knapp had issues with footwork and isn't the largest lineman, Schrauth wasn't as good as expected, Craig still has very little experience, and we're already on our backup RG.

We have enough individual talent that we shouldn't be bad, but I feel like there is enough variance that at the end of the season we could see the line win the Joe Moore award or see them just be average.
