It becomes hard to separate it when it feels that some LSU fans (not so much you but others) embrace Kelly’s personal animus against ND.
I’m surprised I don’t feel too bad. I had a few three finger pours last night during and after the game. The A&M game for me, personally, is a big one. Living in Houston and working with and having a lot of A&M friends makes the loss that much more difficult. My phone was blowing up in the second half and post game…
I get that too, Irish Saint. “Stealing” (if that’s the appropriate term) Kelly
from Notre Dame was a big deal. Look at our previous coaches (Orgeron - promoted from within; Miles - Oklahoma State; Saban - Michigan State; Dinardo - Vanderbilt; Hallman - Southern Miss). Being able to pluck a coach from one of the biggest programs, arguably the biggest, was and is a huge deal for LSU. I understand many fans like to puff their chest out and peacock about that and how that would be off putting to ND fans (even if it is Kelly).
That said, I do acknowledge that Kelly, oddly, has some personal vendetta against ND. It’s odd. Maybe deep down, he wishes he could have made it work and/or he regrets making the switch? I don’t know. Approaching 3 seasons, and no one is envisioning Kelly fielding a NC team. He’s got a poor record against top 25 opponents and has a lot of questions to answer.
