This is all true but overly analytical. For whatever reason Kelly teams play like pussies in big games. AnM just played with more intensity and balls in the second half and whipped their ass.
Hard to really get your teams up for big games when you build the atmosphere like you’re a CEO and they’re a bunch of cogs.

Oh - we have to go out there and execute? No shit.

Did you hear what he said to the holder tonight after the botched FG? “You gotta get out there and get the fucking operation going!”

lmao ok, Brian. Great coaching.

Respect for coming back on the thread after the L. Good banter and all the best for you personally.

As for BK...

Lol - you fellas should know I’m not some “BK” guy at heart … I mean, he’s fine, nothing to write home about.

I’m defensive about LSU, however, but y’all know that I both love and pull for ND as well.

No hard feelings when y’all pull against Kelly / LSU. I get it (I just wish it was more specifically directed against BK, but by all means, do as you wish).

Love thee Notre Dame 🍀

No hard feelings your way either. Tonight's vitriol toward LSU was a weird combo of rooting against BK and rooting for our best win. But don't talk shit about our strength of schedule. Not our fault FSU and USC suck this year.

Can't wait until Kelly is gone so I can go back to rooting for LSU. They were always the team I "rooted" for in the SEC.

Same. I love their unis and their every-five-yards field design and their generally chaotic-good energy. Just gotta hate their head coach for the time being.

Cignetti will fuck up OSU. Watch

He’s got that “fuck you, we’ll beat your ass is the god damn fucking parking lot” type mentality like my college coach had. Players feed off that shit.

They will need Roarke back. Jackson won’t cut it.

Would 100% agree if the QB is healthy.

I agree. I have a suspicion this Indiana team is for real

You think Tennessee is surviving Georgia? I think the Tennessee death is imminent.

I think ND ends no worse than 7. Keep in mind the second place SEC and Big 10 team will be coming off a fresh loss in conference championship game.

True but if it’s their first or second loss* they’ll finish seeded ahead of us because of the extra big game they played and we didn’t.

*unless it’s A&M perhaps.

It was really a crap shoot for me after the top 6 because I have no idea how the committee is going to treat teams that lose the conference title. I think Tennessee is in at 2 losses. I think Alabama will finish with 2 losses too and could very well see the hype machine get them into the playoff, but I don’t think you could put them in over the team that beat them, 1 loss Miami, and 2 loss A&M whose losses would be to two playoff teams.

I did nearly swap out PSU for IU.

It becomes hard to separate it when it feels that some LSU fans (not so much you but others) embrace Kelly’s personal animus against ND.

I’m surprised I don’t feel too bad. I had a few three finger pours last night during and after the game. The A&M game for me, personally, is a big one. Living in Houston and working with and having a lot of A&M friends makes the loss that much more difficult. My phone was blowing up in the second half and post game…

I get that too, Irish Saint. “Stealing” (if that’s the appropriate term) Kelly from Notre Dame was a big deal. Look at our previous coaches (Orgeron - promoted from within; Miles - Oklahoma State; Saban - Michigan State; Dinardo - Vanderbilt; Hallman - Southern Miss). Being able to pluck a coach from one of the biggest programs, arguably the biggest, was and is a huge deal for LSU. I understand many fans like to puff their chest out and peacock about that and how that would be off putting to ND fans (even if it is Kelly).

That said, I do acknowledge that Kelly, oddly, has some personal vendetta against ND. It’s odd. Maybe deep down, he wishes he could have made it work and/or he regrets making the switch? I don’t know. Approaching 3 seasons, and no one is envisioning Kelly fielding a NC team. He’s got a poor record against top 25 opponents and has a lot of questions to answer.

It's kind of remarkable, because Kelly IS a good coach. But Freeman has beaten more ranked teams at Notre Dame in 2 and 2/3 seasons than BK did in his first six, and is 10-4 overall vs. BK's losing record.

But like we saw last night when A&M switched QBs, his teams sometimes had trouble adjusting in-game. And they often played tight in big games so when things would go bad, they'd go bad fast.

To be clear I was generally a BK supporter when he was here - largely because I'd lived through the Dark Ages that preceded - but I have come to the conclusion we are better off than we were. I actually think LSU may be too, overall, in the sense that he brings a consistency they often lacked. But there's a ceiling with him and you see it in games like last night's.

Absolutely. I’ve said it here before and I’ll say it again, Kelly is a high floor, low ceiling coach. He’s consistent and he wins a lot of games, but he’s limited overall. He reminds me of Rick Barnes in a lot of ways - just more arrogant and smug.
