The more angles I look at the Penix pick, the more and more I think the GM should have been fired on the spot. I really don’t see any positives for the Falcons. Cousins is pissed and Penix should be too.
Other than not letting Cousins know what they were going to do, I think it's a good strategy. Cousins isn't that far away from retiring. Bring the guy in and let him learn under Cousins for a couple of years. It worked a couple of times for Green Bay and SF did it with Montana and Young. Mahomes also sat initially. The more angles I look at the Penix pick, the more and more I think the GM should have been fired on the spot. I really don’t see any positives for the Falcons. The thing I’ve seen continually referenced in regards to letting him sit and learn is his advanced age at this point. I think he’s already 24.Other than not letting Cousins know what they were going to do, I think it's a good strategy. Cousins isn't that far away from retiring. If you are Cousins do you really care that Penix could possibly help on a few years? That would mean Cousins has probably been cut. This pick helps your $100m guaranteed investment ZERO. Zero now and Zero later, zero ever.It seems like (outside of Penix's age) Cousins was under the impression that the Falcons were in win now mode. Not take a guy to not help for a few years.
It worked out in the Bears favor, so I'm not mad at it. I would be if I were a Falcons fan though.
If I'm Cousins, I'm upset because I want to win now and there are holes on defense that were only address later in the draft. Latu or Turner probably could have started day 1 for them. It was 100% a lazy pick. They had their choice of any defensive player (per ESPN, they needed a CB, Edge, DT, OLB, and OT) and they chose to stay put and draft a QB that would probably be there round 2.If you are Cousins do you really care that Penix could possibly help on a few years? If you are the falcons this was not only dumb but lazy. The Bears were picking right after and they were NOT picking Penix. They could have 100% traded down to 10 at the very least and got another pick and Penix.
I think the "to me" part of this should be emphasized, because up until you mentioning it in this post, their record last season didn't occur to me once all weekend.Good draft for the Irish. Unfortunately it’s a harsh reminder to me that this team should have been better than 9-3. Qb, wr and offensive coordinator really hurt us
For sure if you’re Alt but the rest might be better off buying a nice condo where they plan on living when they are done playing (with a large down payment) or just stay in cash until you make the team.Ok fellas. I want you to invest 75% of your bonus in the s&p 500. Act like it doesn’t exist for the next 30 years. You can thank me in 2054.
I heard that as well. QB's are playing into their late 30's, so that should give him 8-10 years to play. The thing I’ve seen continually referenced in regards to letting him sit and learn is his advanced age at this point. I think he’s already 24.

If he's good and it works out, yep. If it does not work out I guess his old age wouldn't matter anyway.I heard that as well. QB's are playing into their late 30's, so that should give him 8-10 years to play.
This is written by a USC writer but maybe there's some hope this guy will grow up and develop?
100%. I've seen that guy's takes before, and he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. Here's one of my favorites of his. Everybody and their brother had Alt as the first or second Tackle off the board, easily 1st round. Not this guy. "I think this tweet explains why he is a former scout and not a current one.

"Nothing Dominant About Notre Dame’s Joe Alt on Game Film"

This is one of my biggest reasons why social media is awful... Giving people like this any kind of platform outside his friend's basement having a few beers getting laughed at by the boys.
This statement makes it so he can't be wrong. Let's say Joe Alt is the most dominant Olineman next year. The guy will just say his grade isn't a prediction, so he wasn't wrong.... Horrible takes.
